Ryanair Website

I'm trying to book flights at the moment. I'm not an EU citizen so in the radio box where it asks "Please Confirm you are an EU/EEA citizen and will present a valid EU/EEA passport or National Identity card at the airport (Driving Licence not accepted)" I click "No".

When I go to confirm the flights, it tells me "Passenger(s) (2) please confirm you hold a valid EU/EEA passport or National Identity card" and won't let me book without confirming it!

    arrrgh!

So, do Ryanair not let non EU nationals book flights? Or should I just tell the website I'm an EU national?

I'd phone the numpties to ask, but they'd charge me 1.70/minute for the privilege.

Do you have/need visa for where you are travelling to?

If you do say yes-them ****ers would still check your passport at the airport and before you board....

    Ryanair are just racists! :D

Nope, don't require a visa. I'm just a Canadian - hardly terrorist material.

Americans shouldn't have any problems booking on Ryanair.

Uncheck Online Check In. You can only get that with an EU passport. If you don't have one you have to check in in the airport.

Why dont you just go back to your own country.....oh wait, you cant lol ;)

I know foreign people who have booked through Ryanair before and they had no problems

A Mexican friend of mine had this problem, you can book through their website no worries, what you CAN'T do is try to book for online check-in as if you don't have an EU passport you need to check-in at the desk in the airport and show them your passport. Hope that clarifies it ;)

    oh, ****.

I'll have to change the online check in thing then.

I'd already booked the flights with online check in, and you can't change it online.

So I had to call them anyway :(

Apparently I can just show up and check in at the airport and pay the 10 euro then. Fair enough :)

(I'll get back to stealing your jobs, women and so on, now)

You can do it online. Go to the homepage and on the menu under "my flight" you can select "manage my booking". You need to put in your details and you can add "airport check-in".

It'll be a million times easier then going from desk to desk to pay at the airport.

i was on it the other day and there's something i don't remember being there the last time.

when you deselect priority boarding a massive warning pops up with yes and no options. of course most times when you see warnings like that on computers they're for confirming the action you just did but clicking yes says that you want priority boarding and reselects the option you just deselected. the sneaky bastards

and on the page you have to select your country and it has ireland preselected. of course most people would just skip it without reading properly which i initially did. then i noticed a charge next to it so i clicked the drop down and saw the "No insurance required" option at the top. again, the sneaky bastards

but i got a flight for €60 that would have cost €240 otherwise so as long as you're wise to their tricks they're good

Wish I could, but there's nowhere to change that online, just extra bags and sports equipment and stuff.

I just added Additional Passenger Information and the pop up told me I'd have to pay at the airport as well.

    Thanks, though.

This should be an obligatory flashing warning on their website before anyone is allowed to book a flight.

Don't get me started on Ryanair.......mumbles to self....

Oh maybe they changed it but you used to be able to, I did it before Christmas, I can't actually check myself because I don't have a flight booked at the moment. I wasn't able to print the boarding card so I had to opt for airport check in but it was there in that section with all that stuff.

I think if you select that you want to add bags or sports equipment it will bring you to a list of options and one is airport check in, it was something wierd like that, can't remember exactly because it was a few weeks ago...

Or maybe they got rid of that option so people would ring the callcentre and they could scam money:rolleyes:

Look I'm no fan of Ryanair but ultimately they give you all the options and all it takes is reading it correctly. If you don't then blame yourself not them.

My personal whinge about the site would just bea wish for a more of an upfront initial price. It gets on my goat watching the cost tick up every step of the way but such is life.

(also, when booking in the UK there are some odd charges such as a charge for using a debit card to book and it costs £5 each way on a return flight but surely there is only one financial transaction??)

Better than Aer Lingus which among other things seems to assume you're in Britain, listing all the British airports first, then everywhere else, including Irish airports, alphabetically.
Great show from the "national airline".

That's not specific to the UK, Ryanair charge all their customers a per-leg, per-passenger credit card charge. Yes, it's only one charge for them (about 2.5% of the total) but they're upfront about it so if you don't like it, you can always book elsewhere.

Actually, it means your computer or browser are set up to use UK English instead of Irish English. The Aer Lingus website thinks you're in the UK and, correctly, offers you UK airports first. If you configure it properly, it'll show Irish airports first.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools menu, click on Internet Options, click on the Languages button and Add "English (Ireland) [en-ie]" and move it to the top. In Firefox, go to the Tool menu, click on Options, go to the Content tab, and click on "Choose" beside Languages. Do the same as with IE.

Yep, my Firefox language is set to English (United States) and I get Aerlingus' US website with $ prices and all.

it's true. when you get down to it, it's your own fault if you get caught by these things but people who don't know what ryanair are like are very likely to get caught. imo the website is deliberately trying to trick people into paying more

I've checked in at the airport a few times before even when I'd selected "online checkin" and was fortunate enough never to be charged. One time they were looking like they were going to charge me but I said I'd tried but their website was broken (it was.) Get there a bit early in case you do have to go off to the ticket desk to pay for it though (generally you can skip the checkin queue coming back having paid so it's not too bad.)

BTW I am 99% sure Aer Lingus's website works on IP geolocation rather than browser settings, I get the Irish website at home and the UK one when in the UK, on the same laptop. Also get the UK one in work as that is where our internet goes through.

I'm not sure it does, I know other websites do. Currently I'm in Ireland but I'm using a UK network, and sometimes a French one. A lot of sites pick this up, but Aerlingus doesnt seem to. It was set by the language in my browser.
