i know you can put a 500gb hardrive into the ps3 but what i'm wondering is does it affect playing ps1/2 games if you swap it with the 60gb hardrive?

anyone have any experience with this

Backwards compatability on 60GB PS3s has nothing to do with the hard drive, it's just that the 60GB models had the Emotion Engine chip so that they can emulate PS2 games. The actual 60GB console is different, changing the hard drive won't affect whether the console can or can't play PS2 games.

Thinking of getting rid of my 80gb for a 320gb.

Can anyone beat this one for value?

Nope, seems pretty good. Just take into account though that postage will bring it up to €72 and Komplett ship from outside Ireland so I'd be worried that something delicate like a hard drive would get manhandled on the way here. Maybe someone else would know for sure?

Thats from the States though. Only 6 pounds delivered though.

If theres a problem though theres even more hassle.

true.. but from what i hear people rarely have problems with them .. go with which ever one you'd trust more

Do you mean the brand? or the Ebay seller? Have you had good experiences?

I wouldn't have given it a second thought except GP mentioned HDs are apparantly really fragile.

Which one is better? Fujitsu a better brand?

i just ment people dont usually have problems with HD's in general becasue you said
If theres a problem though theres even more hassle.

i havent had any dealings with this particular ebay seller but his feedback seems positive enough and i'm sure if he sells alot of these HD's and gets good feedback the delivery care must be good

also i cant say which brand is better between Fujitsu and western digital as i just dont know sorry

Okay maybe I'm being a bit OCD about it, they're not very fragile but they do have delicate moving parts inside so I'd just worry that a little parcel might get dropped or something. I got my 320GB hard drive for €100 in Peats (It's a WD Scorpio just like the one you linked to noodler).

Western Digital and Samsung are probably the better known hard drive manufacturers. Never had a Fujitsu-Siemens but I seriously doubt brand really matters.

For anyone that is changing their hard drive on the ps3, ensure you have the correct philips head screw driver. I changed mine last week. The screws are quite flimsy and cheap and if you try to take them out with a standard one they will strip!! I stripped 2 and had to get a precision screw driver to remove the rest. I got the 2 stripped screws out with a pliers!! You have been warned

+ 1 on the pliers recommendation!

I tried a few screwdrivers but found needlenose pliers worked wonders - had the screws out in 5 seconds each.

It's really a very easy upgrade once you get those screws out, so don't worry noodler, it really is kinda fun :pac: Especially then when you check the system information and see how much free space you have.

+1 on the screwdriver. I had to hacksaw mine to make a slot for a flathead screw driver.
I also got the same hard drive from Komplett for my 60GB PS3, working great !

I completely messed up 3 of the screws, ridiculously flimsy but a friend has a screwdriver kit and I found a funny looking (pincer shaped) head that took them right out for me and now I have a 500GB HDD :D

I've bought a ridiculous amount of hard drives from Komplett over the years, both internal and external and not one has ever arrived DOA. They do package them well enough, especially internal ones. I'd also recommend Western Digital as a brand, I've never had a problem with a single one.
