waterproof mobile phone?

Went training over the weekend I got caught in the storm - had my mobile in my pocket in case of injury and the need to call someone - only thing is the phone is know ****ed! It stays at 3% after charging all day and constantly keeps alarming to say the battery is low. I'd say it's a fault in the battery charge sensor as it is lasting all day but I digress. I recall at some point seeing a phone that was waterproof.. does anyone know of one/have one/have other suggestions for phone protection. I was saturated to the skin so just using a different pocket would have been of no use...

If I take my phone out when training I always place it in a sealable food bag. Even if it doesn't rain the phone can be damaged by sweat so it goes in the food bag regardless of the weather.

Another +1 for the ziploc bags. Have saved my phones and cameras on numerous occasions.

I've done the same to phone's in the past. Try leaving it in the hotpresss for a couple of days. The dry heat often is enough to dry it out. As for waterproof phones. The best I can see on the market at the moment is

I use the Nokia 5140 when running and cycling. Its an old model but functional and it will probably outlive you. Mine's about 3 years old now and I'll be happy to replace it with the same one again when it eventually dies. Not available in shops anymore, but they're easily obtainable on ebay

I've a Nokia 5500 Sport. It's been soaked many a time while out on the bike or left in a discarded track top in the rain while I'm off running and still works perfect.

I got it about 18 months ago and not sure if it's still available but you could try to pick up a second hand unit.

Its been proven that the 5140 is the most durable phone on the market. I watched a show on tv where they blew one up with dynamite and it still worked. Incredible stuff.

I have mine put a side for special occasions. Never letting it go :D

I watched a show on tv where this guy brought dinosaurs to life and put them in a theme park.

+1 and take the battery out and dry it separately.

Yep, I did the radiator thing - it was on it drying for the best part of a day and all condensation had cleared. That was Sat and it now being Tuesday and having the same issue I thought it was knackered. Of course Sod's law helped out cos as soon as I ordered a new phone off the network website it started working again! I will just go with the ziplock bags idea and put the sim in this phone and into a ziploc bag when training and otherwise put the sim in the new phone when not.

You're generally better if you take it apart and dry it out for a day or two before you plug it in to the charger.

If you get the inside dry they'll often work again, but if you charge them when they're still wet you may short out the boards.

    Hope yours is OK.

you could get a dry bag for your phone - but depending on pocket size you're increasing bulkiness. After destroying a phone at a day out watching a match in torrential rain i would consider one - i would use it while cycling - but not running.

If you're phone's one piece and not of slider or clamshell construction you can use it while it's in the bag (depending on the bag - i have seen them being used in the bag - but my google has been far from comprehensive)

Yep - I meant that I took it apart and put it on the radiator. It started working agani yesterday but that only lasted 3 hours. It actually lasts ok on silent cos you can't hear the constant battery alarm. So will keep it for long distance training - in a ziploc! (wonder if I could fit jelly babies in there..:D)

I've had a few costly lessons with mobile phones and mp3 players in the rain, and the only solution I could come up with is to leave the damn things at home.

The ziplock bag didn't work for me, but the mp3 player started working again about a month later!

Have you tried one of these?

    http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11038974

I have one and it works a treat! 3 mins charge lasts 3 hours and it's very water resistant. Have run through all sorts of weather with it and even left it overnight in my car that froze over and it still works. Love it!

Amazon is asking for $200 for that 2GB mp3 player. I don't think so!
Besides, I only started running with music because my wife gave me one for Christmas a year ago. I found I run better without and was almost relieved when it fried, so I could stop using it without upsetting my better half. ;)

I run with an iPod Touch (yes, I know, bigger than I'd like) - if there's going to be even the slightest hint of rain, it goes straight into a small plastic bag before I head out. I don't take a mobile phone, but I'm sure my 3 year old Nokia brick can survive just about anything! :p
