Is the drive in Peats USB powered or does it need connection to a wall socket?

Doesn't look like a USB powered one.
They feature a dual voltage power supply so you can take it with you on your travels.

Got a Western Digital 320GB Passport meself... great bit of kit!

Dual Voltage Power Supply, not usb powered like the Aldi one.

nope it's no usb powered but i keep it beside my tv anyway and usb connection is long enough to reach my pc so doesn't bother me. Really fast transfer though i must say and hasn't given me any trouble. For an twice as much space i think it's better value than the medion one imho.

Yeah, im a laptop user so this is perfect.

The USB powered drives are normally more expensive than the external
drives that need to be plugged into the mains, hence why I think the
Aldi one is a good price. (I paid over €100 for a 250GB USB powered drive
    from Ibood in 2008).

If using with a netbook or elsewhere where portability is important I'd go for the USB powered one.

Re: the Aldi one which I am considering buying...... I need something to put all my photos and short movies onto straight from my laptop - is this an easy option and would this do the job for me?.. (I'll also be putting them onto dvd as well just in case)

    Txs!...

All you have to do is drag and drop the files from your laptop onto the external drive. Easy to do and exactly what you need.

Can you link to the cheaper ones. I know they're cheaper online but by the time you add on postage the cheapest I can find on Dabs comes to €56.39

I'd pay the extra €3.7 to buy it from a shop that I can return it to if I have any problems.

Prices on Pixmania or Komplett for a 2.5" usb powered external drive 250GB are around the €70-100 mark. (With Western digital the cheapest option).

It's as cheap as you'll get it at the mo for a 2.5 inch usb powered drive. I find them much handier than their socket powered equivalent.

Aldi in NI are doing it for £48. Works out about €52.

Unfortunately there are no Aldi stores in Northern Ireland...

These will sell very quickly. My local Aldi only had 6 for sale the last time they sold these.

Looks like a good price alright. I wonder what's the drive manufacturer/model?

I was thinking of getting one of these aldi ones as well.....but think i will get this one instead.

It's a Western digital, usb powered 320gb hd.
I want to back up my desktop hd as well as other files so the extra space would be useful..

And like the aldi one its nice and compact+light.

with postage it comes to E95 though.... :(

what do ya all think? which one would YOU get?

Aldi, local store so you can bring it back if there is a problem and no crap CS telling you to send it back to France so they can look at it before telling you to pi$$off.

The aldi ones are most likely sold out by now but i have that exact hard-drive (except in white) and it's brilliant. So order it with confidence if you're unsure. Btw i still would've ordered the WDPassport over the aldi hard drive!

Wonder would the Aldi one be suitable for leaving plugged into my Phillips DivX players USB port.
Will there be enough power to run movies etc?

    HB
