Help me find a band; The Breathers? (or something)

Heard a CD tonight and asked the guy who was playing it what it was. He said it was 'The Breathers' (I think), that the band was formed by one of the members of the Pixies, and the album, as far as I could tell, had the word 'squash' in the title.

If any of this rings a bell, I'm all ears!

    Thanks

Last Splash by The Breeders perhaps.

That was it, thanks very much :)

I was shouting to him across the room wondering what it was so didn't quite catch it!

It was the track 'No Aloha' that really caught my attention.

    Thanks again

kim Deal from Pixies (played bass, lot of backing vocals and sang on a few songs), being around for ages but last Splash best album of theirs

Mountain Battles is a good album. Not the definitive Breeders album by any means but a grower and some very pretty songs on it. You just gotta love the Deal's voices.

Mountain Battles is fantastic. They were great at the Picnic too.

Too many clashes at EP this year which was so annoying, but I decided to see Foals instead since I'd not seen them live before. Caught the last 3 or 4 Breeders songs so that wasn't too bad.

Always loved Hellbound and the Happiness is a Warm Gun cover on Pod, too.

Pod's amazing! And yes, that version of Happiness Is A Warm Gun is better than the original, in my opinion. Pod's more heavygoing and a bit less melodic than The Last Splash but it's just as brilliant.

My favourite Breeders song is Safari, which is a b-side and available on the Safari EP. YouTube it - stunning.

Indeed it is stunning. It was my introduction to the Breeders, and is still as good today.

Pod is a much better album than last splash, (only my opinion) every song is amazing been listening to it for years and years and it never gets boring..... Fortunately Gone one of the best songs ever written. Its the arrangements and simple licks and melodies that make this a perfect album.

i've only listened to mountain battles a few times so far, but im very impressed.... she just keeps banging them out

The Breeders are one of my favourite bands of all time. Last night I couldn't sleep, so I listened to Mountain Battles, Title TK and Last Splash one after the other. (Not sure why I did it in reverse chronological order, but anyway... :D)
They're all fantastic albums, but I think Mountain Battles is probably my favourite. My favourite song onthat album keeps changing - first it was "We're Gonna Rise", then it was "Here No More". At the moment it's "Walk It Off" - that song has been played constantly on my Zen for the past couple of weeks! :D
I haven't listened to Pod fully yet but I did buy it - it's part of a big pile of CD's I must listen to. Might listen to it tonight, actually.

Ooh thanks for the recommendation, I'd never heard of the Safari EP before. I must try and find that somewhere on the internet.

You should meet my cousin so - she is obsessed. We got to meet the Deals a few years ago and sang along with Kelley to Driving on 9 as some guy played her fiddle. She was trying to learn the violin and it kept going out of tune so my cousin sent her her own violin. She offered us free backstage passes to Reading/Leeds that year as a result but she couldn't go.
It was cool to hear then the Kelley was playing my cousins violin on tours in the US not long after.

Title TK takes a few listens to really appreciate. I wasn't sure when I listened to it first whether I liked it or not, but after a few songs the songs were stuck in my head!
"The She" is one of their best songs - I love the bass and keyboard in that song. It's so simple, yet brilliant.
"Little Fury" , "Son Of Three" and "Huffer" are brilliant too.
Having said that, I still prefer Mountain Battles and Last Splash.

They also supported Nirvana in the Point in 1992. Great show.

OK so I finally listened to this from start to finish last night. I had high expectations, and thankfully they were fulfilled. I love the sound, it's not as poppy as Last Splash and not as "difficult" as Title TK, and I think Kim's voice sounds better on this record than any of the others.

"Happiness Is A Warm Gun" - every bit as good as, if not better, than the original.
"Hellbound", "When I Was a Painter", "Iris", "Opened" and "Lime House" all kick ass. "Glorious", "Fortunately Gone" and "Oh!" are beautiful.
Even the weakest (imo) song, "Only In 3's" is quite good.

While I love all 4 Breeders albums I love some more than others:
Mountain Battles > Pod > Last Splash > Title TK

After repeated listenings, however, Pod could very well become my favourite.

Oh and Dudess I listened to "Safari" on YouTube. Wasn't too keen on it after the first listen, but it's growing on me. :)
