South Coast TV-Cork

    Hi,
I'm living in North Co. Cork and have been receiving UK channels via South Coast (BBC1, 2, UTV and C4) via an aerial and amplifier. (I don't know much about this - a professional installed it for me!)

During the weekend (probably something to do with the awful weather here) BBC2 and C4 disappeared. BBC1 is cutting in and out intermittently. UTV is the only one that's coming through perfectly (other than the 4 Irish channels I also get). I tried fine-tuning the TV but there is nothing there.

I doubt it's my aerial, so it must be the transmitter. Is anyone else having the same problem? How likely is it that it will be fixed?

    Cheers,
    Aglomerado

Why not buy a cheap fta satellite receiver and dish? You'll get the standard UK channels and the extra "digital" channels as well.

The SCTV analogue has to stop shortly. They have an MMDS Licence for 11.7GHz to 12.5GHz.

You are better with a FTA, Freesat or Sat4free satellite system, from under €70 DIY install for basic to over €500 for HDD recorder / dual tuner /HD inc install. Once off payment.

Cheers folks think that's the best course of action all right. I was going to get FTA down the line, but it looks like it might be sooner rather than later.

This post says Spur Hill DTT tests increased power last Friday, could that be the cause of your problems?

    Spur Hill DTT Frequencies: 45, 49, 66, 68

That looks like it could be the cause all right! Anyway, I checked last night and everything's back in action.

    Thanks for the tips lads.

I'd say the original poster's problem had nothing to do with the DTT tests.
The OP said in North Cork, possibly transmitter for Fermoy? So on the blink after bad weather until fixed I assume

While we are discussing the North Cork area....
Does anyone have any reports of DTT reception from Spur Hill? I'm based in Rathcormac and have no ariel in my house! I'm slowing in handing over any money to get things installed until I can figure out exactly what I will need.

The Ballydesmond and Knocknagree deflectors were off for a good bit (not sure if they're back on.

    This might be your area?

I don't think so. I'd imagine Spur Hill and Dungarvan would be closer to me than Ballydesmond or Knocknagree. I would be getting whatever signal Fermoy gets.

Mullaghanish is getting set up at moment and its signal reaches most of Cork County, even where I am we have an RTE relay yet you can still get reception from mullaghanish
