Just curious guys as to what percentage of people learnt/are learning on their own car, their parents car, or just on their instructors car?

Me? Well, for lessons I'm learning on my instructors dual controlled car, in between I'm practising on my parents car.

Looking forward to getting my own to practice on though! :D

So, who's car did/do you learn to drive in? 35 votes

My own, it's mine, mine, mine!

I only have the option of using my Driving Instructors car.

Learning in instructors car. Feel at a real disadvantage since I've no car and no person to practice with. Slow progress. :(

Jeez, sorry to hear that Caderyn. I know not everyone is fortunate enough to have a car at their disposal to practice in outside of lessons.

Mind me asking how you're finding it not being able to practice in between? Have you had many lessons so far?

Must be expensive alright.. on saying that though you're not having to pay for insurance, tax, fuel etc.. so I guess it's all relative :)

My dad couldn't insure me on his car because he's a hackney driver and the quotes he got were about the €3,000 mark, so when he came upon a very cheap car that was still taxed and nct'd he picked up for me as my belated 21st present. Insurance was only a grand, so overall I have spent less on this car than I would have spent on insuring myself on my dad's.

I also got approximately ten lessons, the first two were in my Instructors Yaris, and then I was taken out in my own car for my lessons. I don't think I would have come on as far as I have if I hadn't had a car to practice in. However, I find that with my dad in the car he often dishes out advice that contradicts my instructor, which makes me wish I could gag him.

In a way Caderyn might be better off, as you won't be contradicting advice, and you don't have the opportunity to pick up bad habits. I think you would probably be more likely to pass your test first time, in comparison to me!

Had the mothers car when i was learning! More of a housewifes mobile...but it was either that or nothing!! I'd say most people now in their early 20's like myself and late teens will have had their own car...just curious what the age range is for those voting! I know I was the only person i can think of right now who learned in a parents car!

Did my first lesson in the instructors car. Then bought a car of my own and could therefore practise between lessons. If you can't practise between lessons then they are not much good to you, by the time your next lesson comes around you are back to square one

I'm learning in my Dad's car. Agree with DancingDaisy, it's so annoying getting contradicting advice from him and my driving instructor, driving's confusing enough without that!!

At present, I'd only have the option of learning in an instructor's car.

However, I'm considering more and more the option of buying my own car after a few lessons and using it to practise between lessons... but I still wouldn't have anyone to go out with me as an accompanied driver so I don't know how useful that would be.

    +1

Ive had 13 lessons so far and it is frustrating not having the ability to practise in between lessons. Ive spent €520 so far and i can see myself spending the same again by the time i pass my test - fingers crossed this summer hopefully it will all be worth it.:o

learnt to drive on a tractor, then the landrover - which was like driving a tank. then took a two week intensive course. The instructor was a cool dude, long hair, ponytail. had an early lesson the morning of the test and we were doing hill starts, we both had cans of coke on the dash, I jerked the car and spilt coke all over him, ha ha , it was a long time ago.. but i'm still laughing at the memory
