Can anyone please tell me the minimum amount of land required for the deer hunting permit. I have 45 acres leading on to many more acres of common land in the hills. Just got word today from npws that I needed more lands.

    cheers lads

i would think it would depend on your ground and volume of deer in the area .the 45 acres is not a lot of land you could shoot across it .common land farmers might have the grazing rights but the sporting rights might be owned by one ,all or none of the tenants.you would not have the right to hunt on common lands, unless you can get permission . the npws will look for a folio no and written permission from the owner of the sporting rights of the commons

Cheers for that, got myself another 120 acres on adjoining land. The npws said between 100 and 150 acres in total is what they need before they'll issue a license.

Fair play Saoirse!! Also if there's a few lads shooting the one piece of land you'll need a bit more.

The guideline given to Rangers is 100 acres but there are exceptions, such as if you are the owner of land with deer on it. And as Jonty said if there are a lot of people on one piece of ground you may be asked to get more. Be careful when it comes to sporting rights, you could land yourself in trouble if the farmer doesn't own them. I had a farmers son apply for a licence on his Dads land but the rights were held against him and they had no idea.
