Edge Pro v. Edge Zero

Just thought i would post up a thread on this. Sorry Voodoo.....
The new J Custom and other Ibanez ranges have the newer Edge Zero bridge instead of the Edge Pro.

What exactly are the pros and cons of it compared to the Edge Pro??
The initial views on this, is that it is not as good as the Pro. Obviously you can't flutter with it, as it corrects the 'flaw' in the older design which guitarists used as a useable sound.

I have read on other forums that the Zero point system gives better tuning stalbility (maybe not fully true) and probably more important, the Zero gives a better tone from it. How true is that???

I know Voodoo would take off the zero-point bar and throw in the locking screws.

I have posted my thoughts already in the other thread, and I don't think anyone else here would have a strong enough opinion to post... :pac:

The Edge-zero is not a bad trem, I wouldn't discourage anyone from it. And some people will prefer the features, especially people who have difficulties with a regular floating trem, so in that respect it is pretty user friendly.

But personally I don't like it.

Voodoo is right. It is an easier trem to setup and use for some one not as familiar with floating bridges. I dont really have a preference as of yet. I just know that setting up floating bridges is a pain... a pain worth having.

I have no problem with the floating trems.....
But better tone from the Edge Zero.....is that fully true?

The guy banging on there in that link you've given doesnt have a clue what he's talking about, so I wouldn't put too much heed in his opinion either way.

Flutter is not a bad thing.

Its a byproduct of two things - momentum and (low) friction. If you've a lot of momentum and low friction, the trem will spring past the balance point when released. And boing back and forth. This is what flutter is.

Momentum is a function of mass, which is a good thing (ie a good solid/heavy trem is good for sustain).

And low-friction is good for stability.

So flutter is not a bad thing, meaning that guy in the thread linked doesn't really know what he's talking about.

As for tone= better/worse.....we'll, you've got both trems, why not decide yourself which you prefer :pac:

Full report on that someday Voodoo.....one J Custom has Dimarzios and the other has the Seymours......slightly different already.

Maybe i will leave it for a while and see what happens.
