Hi/ When I tired to log into my computer today. the following happened:
I pressed ctrl-alt-del as usual, then entered my username and pressed enter[i have no password] it log on, loaded the background screen, then proceeded to log out, and return to the ctrl-alt-del screen. After rebooting , the exact same thing happened. I tried logging up in the various safe modes, but no dice, same result.
Can anyone give me any pointers on what to do?
My operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 2

Ps: For any cheeky chaps out there, eg. 'how can I post this without access to my computer'', it was written using a wii mote and keyboard!

Afaik its related to enabling a Novell networking feature in XP, highly annoying, this can be disabled from unticking it in your LAN adaptors properties iirc, not sure about your problem though, sounds like it could be corrupted user profile, can you logon to safemode as admininstrator (type it in) and leave pass blank and create a new profile could work?

Won't work, it still logs off after I sign in, even in safe mode. And it won't let me sign in as Administrator anyway, it claims its a wrong username/password. Tried different spellings[admininstrator, Administrator, Adminininstrator etc] but no dice.

Anyone else have any suggestions? Would like to be able to fix this today or tomorrow myself, otherwise its off to a repair shop tomorrow afternoon.(tbh not sure if ive the cash for that)

Maybe a admininstrator password was set during the XP Installation, can you remember?

got the computer from my fathers work, it came preinstalled with xp professional, service pack 2. Didn't get a install cd. Have no way of finding out the admin password.
Any other ways to fix this mess, apart from leaving it in somewhere?

Just re-install XP. TBH it's probably been needing it from when you got it. Gets rid of the work crap and need for a password also. Should have a product key on the bottom of the laptop.

Have you tried the last known good configuration option? It should be one of the options on the screen where you choose the safe mode.

It might not work as your computer is logging on and it might be backing up the faulty configuration but it's worth a try.

Tried that earlier on. No sucess, same result- log out straight after log in.
