3 or 6 year redundancy?

Hi, I'm probably going to be offered either redundancy or an hourly rate (with 10% cut) during this week. I'm currently on a salary. I have worked for this company for 6 1\2 years, however it changed ownership in 2005. Will this affect my redundancy entitlements? i.e 3 years instead of 6.

Also if I take the hourly rate I'd be working between 20 - 30 hours a week over 3 - 5 days. Can I assume that I won't be entitled to the top-up thing from the dole (X's & O's)?

i worked with a company before and was outsourced to another company, the issue around time served was captured in the contract and our years of service was recognised...you should contact your HR team to find out what the situation is on this.

It depends- if your hours are over 3 days- you are entitled to claim a top-up payment (I think it works out at about EUR38 per day) for the 2 days a week which you are not employed. If your hours are over 5 days- you have no entitlement (but you might qualify for rent-supplement or other entitlements).

Anything more than 3 days and you are not eligible for the dole.

It doesn't matter if you only work 1 hour per day over 4 days - you are officially "not available for work" and they won't pay you.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. We don't have a HR department but I had a meeting with my general manager and our general operations manager yesterday and I would get the full six years redundancy if I go down that route.

As regards the dole thing, the top-up thing is what interests me. If I worked 4 or 5 nights it would be a minimum of 5 hours a night, so it's only if I worked less that I would require the top-up.

You really need to try to scrunch up your hours into as few days as possible......

Yeah I know. But it's a bar/nightclub so the normal hours are 10 to 2:30 or 3:00. I would usually start at 8 (supervisor) but that'll probably change. It's not too bad though, I should still come out with at least €300 most weeks.
