What do people think of Martin Backpackers http://www.martinguitar.com/guitars/choosing/guitars.php?p=m&m=Steel%20String%20Backpacker%20Guitar?

I'm going to be doing some travelling and this seems perfect to fit into the overhead storage on a plane. Not too worried about getting a wonderful sound out of it if it doesn't have one, just something to play that won't take up too much space and will withstand a small amount of abuse probably. Anyone owned one and know what they're like?

Get a Baby Taylor. Great little travel guitar. Brought mine around europe for 6 weeks and it will sound a hell of a lot better than the backpacker

I got the Martin LX-1 myself, found it had a little more low end (which most travel guitars lack) and a nicer neck, to my hands anyway, sweet little guitar worth every penny! (Also built like a tank, you could **** it off a cliff and it would survive!)

The backpacker is nice and small but the sound is very tinny, the balance is brutal, imposable to play properly sitting down and awkward to play standing up as the neck is much heavier then the body.

I'd honestly stretch a little and try out the taylor and the martin.

Best bet is to go in to a music shop and see what suits you!

The baby taylor is a really nice travel guitar if you can go for that one I would prefer it over the backpacker.

    Havent tried the LX-1 yet.

Would the LX1 and Baby Taylor fit in the overhead compartment of a plane?

Thats really down to the size the airline allows, its different for ryanair, british airways aerlingus etc but I've never had a problem.

Ryanair let me bring it on an outbound flight and then refused to let me on the plane with it on the return flight (shower of c*nts!). Think I was charged €80 to put it on the plane. It fits into the overhead no problem. The neck on the baby taylor is removable though with a philips screwdriver and with the neck removed the entire guitar will fit into the official hand luggage thing they have at the airport so you would get away with it then (I just couldnt get a screwdriver)
