Yeah, but what would you expect for such a brutal setup with regard to travel/accom.
Don't know why it appeals to so many people ?

So many interesting alternatives this time of year.

I guess that this is mainly to facilitate the many overseas runners who might be wishing to make travel arrangements.

Rovers, to be fair the organisers bend over backwards to facilitate the runners. Transport is on a plate and there's tons of accommodation, unless you leave it really late.

This is very funny ! off course it can't just be because, it is much easier to organise if you have the numbers and entries done in advance, which lead to a better organisation.

It also can not be the success and the huge number of people who can't enter, it give them the oportunity staright away to sign up for next year and satisfy them some how for missing this year deadline

There is maybe POSITIVE reasons behind it. I am always surprise that athletes who want to perform better and need a positive attitude to achieve, always came to be so negative about everything.:o

Many big events do the same (E.g Ironamn Florida) I hope they are not all in trouble, it could be the end of Major sporting events around the world.;)

:) usually, including IMs, they open the day after the event :)

do you not think that you might get alot of people signing up now as its so far away, and not actually turning up, leading to a reduction in numbers on the day (which although they have paid, presumably isn't desireable for the event?)

i'm doing it this year and may do it next year, but don't think would sign up so far in advance, and might miss out on the closing date if theres a large early uptake as a result.

Quite a few IM's open the day before for onsite regristration. Online the day after.

I think at the end of the day, race organiser do what they want, there is no rules. I will open some of my events early next year, such as teh active weekend, 10km run, triathlon series.

So much easier to organise or swapping entries in my case.

but assuming things is dangerous especially without facts. I don't know what is every events situation, and always assume they are organisde by smart people and that there is a reason for everything.

You know me, that you like or not an event, that you agree or not with the way it is run is ok and I support people who have an opinion, even in coaching in my daily work, but giving non founded ideas is not fair on the event and can have bad influence and impact on the event.

It reminds me when I rent a plane in the Olympic swim cap story, in a week with the media It went that I hire a private jet and end up that I had a private jet..... big difference from a small comment on TV !!!!

By the way Im China was open two weeks before the race was on for the following year. I don't have time to look up for more but there is no Bible text about when to open a race entry.

    .

This is to facilitate me :-)

I'm the idiot who get the rants, phone calls, death threats etc from people who didn't get into this years event.
So now I can say - "well get in now for next years event, and stop annoying me".

No word of a lie, entries are coming in already.
You've all been warned VERY early that 2010 will sell out WELL in advance.

Thanks for clarifying that aburke. Good luck with it and I hope the death threats are kept to a minimum :-)

    Its not THAT bad surely?
Plenty of accommodation in Galway to suit all budgets and tastes?
Don't know why it appeals to so many people ?
    Have you done it :-)
If nothing else, its pretty unique.
A mass participation event, in the middle of nowhere in fantastic surroundings.
Its the opposite of a 'big-city marathon'.

    Alan,
Didn't mean to sound like a bollix, I do understand how much time and effort goes into organising such a large event, especially in the middle of the countryside.

I had a look at the prospect of doing it and decided against it based on the price of 2 nights accom in city, transfers to race etc.
So it wouldn't be the entry fee or anything like that which would form my opinion alone.

Tis nearly as cheap to do a marathon on the continent and spend a couple of days sightseeing also.

No Panic- It didn't sound like that to me :-)

True enough. Anyway, I'm faced with the same issue each year for for the DCM, so I know where you're coming from.

I'm heading down for my third year in a row, which speaks for itself in terms of travel and accommodation. The Connemarathon offers something different to your city-based race. Sometimes it's about the race itself, rather than how you get there, and where you stay... Still, it's a little early for me for 2010 (don't know where the hell I'll be!), so hopefully it wont fill up too quickly.

"Slander and Libel are not permitted on the site"

"Defamation (also called calumny, libel, slander, and vilification) is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image. Slander refers to a malicious, false and defamatory spoken statement or report, while libel refers to any other form of communication such as written words or images"

Sorry looked strong but thought as non "english speaker" that I would need to do some research before I get the flamed back

Let's put this behind, we only here to discuss not to declare a war on "words and sentence" interpretetion. :o
