As the title says, i am completely stumped.I have a macbook which i purchased 7 months ago.Yesterday i turned on my macbook and noticed i had some updates to install which i duly did. The updates failed to install and the macbook had to restart, it shut off and when it had powered back on a blue screen appeared with a message in the centre that said 'you need to restart your computer.Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button' There is also some kind of code in the top of the screen, 25 lines long or so .
I have powered the computer off and then on 10 or so times, left it for 24 hrs and tried again but the same message keeps coming up. Beyond doing this i am lost, i bought my mac in Cork but live in Dublin so bringing it to cork and leaving it there doesn't appeal to me. It's still under warranty but i've read that the apple servicing isn't the best.
Can someone please give me some advice on what to do, where to go etc,all replies are appreciated, thanks in advance
    Barry
ps sorry for the long post

Its called a kernel Panic. Can be caused by faulty or unseated RAM, 3rd party peripherals etc, although it sounds like the failed updates may have something to do with it. Romove any peripherals first and try restarting

Start up, holding down the shift key which should enable it to safeboot, i.e. loading only Apple software. Alternatively, boot from the system disk and run disk utility, repairing permissions and running first aid on the disk. Try booting up again......

If, after whiterebel's advice, you're still coming up with errors, you should probably reinstall your system software from you origianal disks which came with your system. You can do this without losing your applications or documents. I think the installer gives you fairly explicit instructions how to reinstall without wiping your drive.

After you get yourself sorted out, I'd advise you to get a cheap (€120 or so) external drive, 500GB would be fine, and set up Time Machine, so at least you have a backup in the event of your machine going wrong again.

PS you may already have a good backup in which case you're laughing anyway ...

If the above doesn't work, call Apple. Don't know where you heard about bad servicing, it's pretty good in my book. They will fix it.
