Underarm shaving / spots

    Hi

Not sure if this is the correct forum - mods pls feel free to move.

After I shave under my arms I come up in a red rash (about 12hrs after) and then this turns to spots - literally about 50 tiny spots. Obviously this is quiet unsightly and defeats the point of shaving. I always use shaving foam and exfoliate before and after but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone else have this problem and suggestions to prevent it?

I would really appreciate any help!!

I don't exfoliate under the arms. Skin is too sensitive

It's probably to do with ingrown hairs and is a shaving rash. I used to get this shaving in other places sometimes :o

I would get an ingrown hair lotion and perhaps you could try Veet-ing or waxing there instead. Also, make sure your razor is fairly fresh and perhaps try changing brand of shaving foam.

    Thanks for the replies.

I only exfoliate as my beautican recommded it as it might help - seems to make zero difference.

Where could I get ingrown hair cream?

I have tried several types of foam/ gel - again no difference, and always use a fresh razor :)

I did a quick google for you and these two sites look good.

I know the place I get my waxing done sells shaving rash lotion. I think there's one called 'Tend'.

Totally agree with having a fresh razor, makes a big difference.

Maybe the problem lies with your deodorant or antiperspirant as some can be a bit harsh on underarm skin especially when it's extra sensitive after shaving. Try changing to a different one and see if that helps. I use dove myself and find it means no unsightly shaving rash YAY. Or if this doesn't work try shaving with conditioner in the shower as it leaves the skin lovely and silky smooth.

This is really common, OP. I would not recommend shaving underarms at all, try to wax instead. Lasts longer, too!

I find using a fresh razor actually makes it worse, as it seems to take a layer of skin off with the hair, I usually use one I've dulled by doing my legs once or twice, much less pain and bumps.

Cutie, this happens to me as well. It was the bane of my existence for years, I could never wear sleeveless things. I tried everything above but nothing worked.

I had an operation a few years ago on another part of my body and the consultant recommended that instead of using creams etc on my wound that I took a bath in lukewarm water with a few drops of tea tree oil. It was amazing, I healed up very quickly and cleanly.

When I was better I said I'd try it on my underarms after shaving, and you know what, it worked an absolute treat. What I do is fill the sink with water, drop a drop or two of tea-tree oil in and use a clean flannel. It feels slightly cold on the skin. Let it dry naturally

Do this and leave it a few hours before applying any deodorant.

It's called 'Tend Skin' from Florida, and is a blend of alcohol and aspirin. If you are alergic to aspirin do not use.

Thanks to everyone for your kind helpful advice.

I took all of it - trip to boots for new razor, shaving cream and nad's ingrown hair spray.

Used all of the above last night and am very pleased to say that I am rash free after 24hrs!!!!

Thanks again for all your help!!
