Stupid question about blusher

I got it into my head the other day to try using blusher for the first time in about 6 years, but it um, I can't seem to make it work properly. I applied it using the brush that came with it (Benefit's Thrrob) but it looks like the lightest pink shimmer on my cheeks, is there a particular brush I'd use? Or do I need to use a primer or a dab of foundation on my cheeks? I don't wear foundation usually. Is there a particular blusher type or colour people would reccomend? Am quite pale, with light brown hair.

    Just feel totally clueless! :o

Nars 'Orgasm' is a flattering shade on most people. It's a pinky shade with a hint of gold.

Generally blushers come in pinks and peachy shades. Currently I'm using a peach, but I have colours from hot pink to very pale pink and bright peach to muted peach. It all depends on the effect you want.

Most people put blusher on the apples of their cheeks that are there when you smile. You can use a brush like these to apply it

The heavier you apply your blush, the more 80's it looks.

Try out some places like specktra.net and youtube videos for tips and tutorials.

Thanks Pythia, just feel so silly I have no clue about it! Presume the smaller brush gives a more intense colour?

Will go hunt down videos on youtube tomorrow, thanks. :)

Yeah, the more tightly packed the bristles are and the flatter they are, the more colour payoff.

    Good luck!

Personally I dont think 'Throb' is a very good blusher at all.Its very pale and I was very dissapointed when I got it.I find Stila does the best blushers or 'Dallas' from Benefit is also very good.
Also the brush that comes with 'Throb' probably wouldnt be the best to use as you need something a bit more circular like the brush Pythia showed.

Also,I find that gel or liquid blush is lot more natural and gives a better colour. Try out Benefits 'Benetint'.

    Hi OP,

Ive been wearing blush for years, I have black hair and pale skin and I cant go anywhere without a bit of colour on my cheeks.

Years ago I use to wear rimmel, I didnt know any better...

Now I wear a combination of three colours from YSL, I put on the lighter colour in the morning to look fresh and not so pale and then I go for the darker bronze if Im going out.

It took me years to get the right colour, and heres how I found out what my perfect blush was. I pinched my cheeks at the MAC counter one day and asked the girl to find the colour closest to it. It was a light pink and its the most natural for me.

Smile, and when you see the apples of your cheeks, start from there and work your way up and out to the top of your cheekbone.

    I lurvve blush!

I also have brown hair and pale skin, at the moment I'm using Dior blusher, I LOVE it,m it's so natural looking but there's still life in my cheeks! I'm using the number 1, it's beautiful, I love the different shades in it, it really compliments my skin:

I also used the YSL blush variation for a while, I lekd that one too, the number 15 is nice for day time

but I loved the number 2

I know they look quite pale here but in real life the colour is deeper :p

I find, to get the most natural looking blusher put it on after foundation but before powder, I love the effect ;)
    Hope that's helped

I really like the thhrob one, its easy to apply as its very difficult to over-do it cos its so light. But my fave is the posie tint, the new benetint from benefit. Its liquid, but is a really pink colour, and you just put a tiny biy on a rub in. Easy.
