    Hey all,
I need some help. I am a disaster when it comes to money to start.
I have not claimed tax relief at source for a top up loan on my mortgage for the last 3 years.
I have trs on normal mortgage but not on topup.
    Can I still claim it??

Also bin tags, can i claim for them? Do i need to have the reciepts?

What other things are commonly claimed for??
Wanna get all the finances in order for the new year.

    Cheers and thanks

As far as i know you can. To find out, ring Revenues Tax Relief at Source section (TRS) on 1890 46 36 26 as they deal specifically with mortgage interest relief.
You can claim for bin tags (Service charges). You can claim for the last four years. The form you need is 'IT27 Tax relief on Service charges'. Just complete this for the number of years that is applicable to you. There is a max of 400 euro on the amount that you can claim relief since last year. You are meant to send in the receipt with the claim but if you do not have them, send it in anyway as it will most likely be process anyway.
Claiming other tax credits depends on your own personal situation. As revenue have your details you are best to ring them and ask them. The should ask you a couple of questions to determine what credits you are entitled to. :)

It's possible things have changed but when me and my OH claimed Rent Relief we were not awarded anything for previous years.

If you have paid tax in the year you are claiming and completed the form correctly then you should qualify. Did you ask Revenue about your claim? :)

TRS will only be applicable to the mortgage top up provided you used the top up for an extension or repairs to the house.
A qualifying loan for the purpose of mortgage TRS is a secured loan, used to purchase, repair, develop or improve your sole or main residence, situated in the State

If you used the top up to buy a car or something else then it won't qualify for TRS.

    see here for more info:

The bin tags relief is given as tax credits I believe. This should help:

It is given as tax credits in the current tax year but for previous years it is dealt with as a refund. The 'credits' are still applied for previous years, but as the year is over the relief is given as a refund.
With the current tax year, the credits are broken down into a 52 week period and given as a relief on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, depending on how your paid. :)
