Half way through building an extension, we are putting ufh in this area of the house, we would like to have tiles in utility and shower room,
with timber in bedrooms and living room.

Does the timber floor have to be "floating", and is hard wood suitable,
i saw mention of engineered floors some where as well,

any advise as to what would be most suitable?

    many thanks

Tiles are great. Also easy to clean and dent / scratch free!
Semi-solid wood works too. I floated 15mm semi-solid Oak. Hasn't buckled or shrunk.

Not too sure about gluing wood to slab. I've seen it done and its expensive for sealers and glue.

    Hi Mountain
    You have a few options
    1. Semi solid flooring glued together and underlay
    2. Junckes H/Wood Flooring clip system plus underlay
    3. Laminated
Use 2 layers of polythene on top of concrete and turn up behind skirting in case there is any moisture in floor and lets it exaporate from under floor.
All very suitable for underfloor heating

Option 4 Any hardwood floor laid on elastilon. Elastilon is like rubber with a sticky film on one side, lay on floor peel back paper on roll and fix floor no glue. The adhesive part hold the floor in place and also leaves movement for expansion/contraction ( Very expensive excellent product)

Junckers are the only company have perfected the clip system especially for installation over UFH. The clips allow movement of floor.Use a 2 hole clip if humidity is between 35deg - 55deg. If levells are higher use 3 hole clip.
