    Hello all,

Desperately looking for some help. My Wii seems to have seized up. It will turn on fine and bring up the main screen, but when you put a disc in its makes a really loud buzzing sound. It has doen this for best part of 6 months now and used to work fine even with this but now it is not able to play games anymore and it shuts down with the error occured screen.

Worst thing is im bulling through zelda at moment and if I were to get a new console all my progress would be lost.

Anyone ever have this problem? Alternatively anyone have any idea on where you can get them serviced, do you need to send it to nintendo or summa? i lost my recepit so if i went to gamnestop they would prob say no dice.

If anyone could give some help/advice be really appreciated

You need to send it back to Nintendo for repairs, BUT - the first thing you need to do is get an SD card, go to the menu and back up all your saved games. I learned that one through bitter experience, and now try to remember to backup fairly regularly. This is not to say that your data will be wiped if it's sent for repair, but there's certainly a strong possibility.

    1. To reach Wii Settings and Data Management, select the Wii icon on the bottom left corner of the Wii Menu.
    2. Select Data Management from the Wii Options screen.
    3. Select Save Data from the Data Management screen.
    4. Select the Wii option to view all data saved in the console’s internal memory.
    5. Select the data you want to back up; then select Copy.

Oh, and this is where you get repairs sorted out: http://www.nintendoservicecentre.co.uk/index.php

I should be able to fix that for you , I have spare mecahnics of a drive that should sort the problem out. It wont effect your save games at all.

Try nintendo first as they could well be free. But failing that send me a PM

Here's a little tip: Buy a copy of Smash Bros Brawl. This is a dual layer disk which doesnt work on all wii's. However, Nintendo have offered to clean/replace your wii lens FOR FREE because of this issue, no need for receipt, doesn't even need to be in warranty. You could pull a fast one :D

Thats all very well unless you don't want SSBB and then its costing you €70 for the game and subsequently the lens clean/replace, IF thats the problem in the first place!!!

Hey, just wondering have you updated to the latest Firmware? It might be a longshot, but this started happening to me with Resi 4. The disk would just spin like it was taking off and then I get the "unable to read" error. After updating though it's running fine.

Nintendo have a 2 year guarantee on Wiis and DSes. If you contact them they may be able to sort you out, based on the serial number of your machine. Nintendo are generally very good for honouring the warranty.
