Help please, how to defrag computer

    I have tried search but I don't think I have found exactly what I want.

    I'm bit of a techno primitive so bear with me please:)

    What does it mean to defragment the computer/ c drive (what is the c drive?)
    Does it just remove stuff unused or stuff that cannot be of use.

    Is it enough just to use this

    Go Programs - > Accessories - > system tools -> Disk Defragmenter. The disk defrag puts files back in an order which will allow windows to access files quicker...improving os performance ...or something along those lines!

    Seeing as how you haven't told us your operation system...

    How to defragment on Vista.
    How to defragment on XP.
    How to defragment on Windows 98/2000.
    How to defragment on Linux.
    How to defragment on Mac.

    If you're looking to remove files and free up space, then you are looking for a disk cleaner of some sort.

    When Windows saves a file, to save space it may be broken into fragments to fit in the first available space(s) on the disk rather even if there is sufficient free space to write it contiguously. This can reduce file performance since reading a fragmented file is slower.

    A defragmenter rearranges these fragments to make the file contiguous. While the Windows defragger is okay for a basic defrag tool, there are better, more powerful defraggers available that defrag faster, automatically, defrag system files, multiple drives simultaneously etc. I personally use Diskeeper 2009 Pro (not free) which is a great automatic defragmenter and defrags even when disk space is low.

    Ccleaner is a disk cleanup utility that deletes temporary files, browser caches, etc. It helps to increase the free space on the drive, but it will not defrag the drive.
