Probable solution.... Ring Sony and/or the store where it was purchased.

Also, there are many threads on boards.ie about it.

    Yep... get a new one!

I've just done the very same. Mine broke just after Christmas, and I've had it since day one. Smyths would do nothing, but then we rang Sony, they said they would replace it, gave us a ref and said the will email Smyths with same info, told us when to go in. Went in, 60GB was out of stock, waited a week... went back and got a (what looks like) a spanking new 60GB PS3. I'm sure its a 40/80/160 they will be able to replace it there and then!

Easy, hassle free. Only bit of advice I would give, is be really nice to the Sony people, just incase your warranty is up. Ours is from April 2007 and there is only a year on the PS3... I'm sure they are well within their right to tell you to feck off, but we just explained the situation, striked up a convo with ya man on the phone, who was sound anyway... and he went away for a few mins while on the phone (presume to talk to his manager) and said thats OK... after we told him the purchase date!!! (plus we gave them the S/N, prob trace it from there too) and he said it was fine to replace... so I'd say, please don't bitch and argue on the phone cos they might pull the out of warranty card!

    Best of luck dude!

    DG
