You need to install an MPEG4 decoder. I believe that installing a trial version of PowerDVD provides the codec.

VLC apparently has the same effect. There was a thread recently here on the same issue:

    Hi,
I got a DVB-T usb dongle for 11 quid on Ebay.
I've downloaded the trial version of PowerDVD and I'm using VLC which picks up the digital signal fine thanks to the advice on this forum except it's crashing regularly.
Is there another Codec I can try in place of the PowerDVD one?
    Rgds,
    Mailman.

OK. As I got no answers here. I've been messing around with stuff myself.

BlazeHDTV appears to require a small super-computer to work properly and is very jerky on my computer which is a 2.66ghz P4 with 1GB of RAM.

I've tried other h.264 codecs including proprietary ones but VLC still crashes so I assume it is still using the PowerDVD codec.

So....even though VLC is crashing on me after a few days of messing around with it I have to say that DTT on PC is awesome and reception from Three Rock is no problem even using the 6 inch aerial that came with the usb dongle.

If anyone can recommend software that is more stable let me know.

    +1 for CoreAVC.

I'm using it with Alt-DVB and a BDA 2 driver/wrapper thingie I found links to in a forum on dealextreme when googling for some help for the cheapo WandTV USB DVB-T dongle I got from dealextreme. I've tried a lot of combinations, and this is the best combination I've found so far, testing on a 2.4GHz P4 with about 1.4GB RAM. Runs the CPU at between 60-80%, so it's possible to do something lightweight as well with a small floating TV window. I highly recommend Alt-DVB, it's the first program I've come across that will immediately load up the channel you last were watching, without having to go through a sequence of events that resemble the launch of a rocket! Except for a short time yesterday evening when the signal seemed to drop (may have been a Tx issue), Alt-DVB seems very robust, with plenty of features/options to keep most happy. I found recordings a bit wonky/rough, but that might be more down to the 5/6 year old PC I'm using with it.

Also, I've now ditched VLC and Real Alternative in favour of KMPlayer - KMP also has some BDA (and WMA) options/configuration, but I haven't been able to get this to work with my USB yet.
