little tussle at the end of the first frame but still should be Ronnies. Selby needing 2 snookers with one remaining red. no chance

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 852 ✭✭✭blackgold>>

Ya I notice ronnie seems a bit odd today. Or is it just me?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,798 ✭✭✭syngindub

well it depends what side of the bed he got out today i suppose. He did ask the ref before the match started how many frames there was which was funny. he didn't acknowledge the crowd much either with his entrance.

Selby takes the third frame to make it 2-1 to O'Sullivan. Selby's GF Vicky isn't bad either :)

never understood why they start the sessions at 2pm & 8pm for the finals, this one could easily be on til 1am

You should be able to get it online, none the less Selby 7-6 up, and 61-23 up in the 14th frame which is a bit cat and mouse at the moment.

One thing that is annoying me watching this is the way that average shots by Ronnie are applauded by the audience compare to better shots by Mark which barely get a clap. I suppose as the bad boy of snooker Ronnie would have more followers but Mark is playing some very good snooker tonight and deserves a little more respect.

    Hopefully this goes the distance.

If only Ronnie played a bit quicker, he's slowing up. :D

All joking aside there isn't much alternative as you want to get the prime time for TV coverage along with giving the players a good break between the first eight frames and the remainder.

Yeah eventually found it on channelsurfing.net. I must say I've been very impressed by Mark Selby this week. Once I saw the game against Mark Allen I knew he'd make it to the final.

This is a great way to pass a Sunday night in work.

stalemate, each player would of just kepot playing safe into the bunch of reds. no point in continuing so re-rack

Really, she's Irish? Jaysus. Yeah, that banter at the 2nd rerack was funny: "Exciting, innit?"

it is, but I think Selby just handed the frame to Ronnie.

Ronnie should seal the frame and match here, Selby's old doll is mint alright, she looks a fair bit older.. maybe he's her toyboy :)

Brilliant final. Fair play to Mark, played a great tournament and was unlucky not to beat the master.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,798 ✭✭✭syngindub

i dunno, i don't think Mark should have thrown the towel in. That was a tough red Ronnie had and Mark only would of need 2 snookers if he missed.

Did they rename the trophy the Paul Hunter trophy? I know there was a Paul Hunter competition on the anniversary but I thought they mentioned them calling it the hunter trophy

Mark needed 3 snookers, he was dead right to throw in the towel. Plus, that red wasn't very difficult.

3 Snookers, well then fair enough. I was a tough red down the cussion though. seen them missed, espessially with new cues :)

Cracking final. Respect to both players. I was hoping Mark would win but well done to Ronnie.

Selby will be kicking himself over several of those tight frames he really should have won. He is definitely my favourite player at the moment. His all round game is superb, and unlike some of the other 'top' players (*cough* Stephen Maguire *cough*) he doesn't seem to choke when he's playing Ronnie either. He's one of the few players (along with some of the old hands like John Higgins) who can actually give Ronnie a tough game on a consistent basis. He's not had the best season though in the ranking events so far, he'd want to get his act together for the remaining few.

    Great final!

I was hoping to see Selby win it too - he has a great temperament which I admire.

I'd agree with syngindub that he shouldn't have thrown in the towel. I know the red was not too tricky but definitely could have been missed under those circumstances... and after that 3 snookers with free ball possibilities and always the chance of getting 5, 6 or 7 point fouls, etc.. plus you never know what can happen with Ronnie's volatility! 3 snookers required frames are often won by the person behind so I would have at least given myself the (slim) chance. Anyway, up to the player himself I suppose!

must admit. it was unusual to see somebody literally throwing in the towel in a snooker tournament. When Mark heard the crowd going nuts, his head dropped and he threw the towel in. Very silly to do that, think he showeed Ronnie a bit too much respect doing it
