    Stormcase ftw.

Btw, the custom foam cuts cost a f00kin' fortune. Probably more than the case in the pistol link you gave.

I have a case pretty much exactly the same as that one, but by a different manufacturer, for my pistols. The only one that doesn't fit is the Desert Eagle, which doesn't bother me as it comfortably holds the other 6 pistols, mags, torches etc with room to spare.
Custom foam is dericiulously expensive alright, but it is worth it.

It also helps when you can do it for free on your lunch break...

what / where do you work and whats the foam cuts done with

Foam cuts are done with hot-wire saws and hot-blade knives. They're specific tools for getting a proper, clean cuts out of foam blocks. You can get small versions of them in model/hobby shops for cutting polystyrene blocks.

and where can you get the foam for cutting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Facom, a tool company, do medium density expanded foam which is ideal for that kind of use. The supply it in inch thick sheets for tool boxes so you'd need to stack and bond a few sheets together to get the depth you'd like.
Beyond that, you're looking at hobby/craft shops to get foam blocks. Shouldn't be too expensive.

    as in sponge or polystrene

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

You can use either. Poly is a bit more robust than foam, but foam doesn't squeak. Poly is also that bit easier to cut using a hot-wire saw because foam has a tendency to melt back a couple of mil as you cut.

The foam cuts that hardigg do are machine-precision cut. Crazy money, but ... well ... precision-cut. They do up the designs in AUTO-Cad, after having gathered the dimensions of whatever it is (and there are a lot of dimensions to get, right down to sling mounts that stick out). Cost is charged by the time spent on the machine, and the design work as well (the lion's share is the machine afaik).

There are different densities on offer as well depending on what it is you're planning on carrying.

If your looking for foam cuts on a smaller scale you can buy the sponge and draw around the piece with a soldering iron, then cut it with a bread knife heated on the gas cooker, it flies through the stuff.,

Saw a video the other day where they used an electric carving knife to cut through foam and it did quite a good job. Will likely be trying this method myself soon enough, or I might get a small battery operated hot wire cutter off ebay.

Hmmm, so, the gun has to be a similar colour to the environment you use it in huh...

Where does a black gun match in? caves etc?

or even more interesting, where the hell do ya use a wooden coloured AK, In a furniture shop!
    :D

that pic is a beauty though, i should have mine very soon., :)

Oh and you can get various thickness and density foam from the upholstery shop thats up on Caple St. They can even cut it to whatever size(s) and shape(s) you want, but you can expect to pay for it. Unless you buy some of their scrap foam, then it's usually quite cheap.

Someone please tell me the differences between the Masada and the ACR, I know the ACR is a development of the Masada but if you put a up a pic of the two I can't tell them apart. And is the Masada still on the go, I though Magpul sold out to Bushmaster with the ACR and that was that.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

The only obvious difference is the cocking handle is further forward on the ACR, up on the hand gaurd, whereas on the masada has it on the receiver.,
theres some small differences including internally but that pretty much applies to real steel only.,

    That all.

Any word on the ACM Masada, if the early reviews are good I'll ask Tony to put me on the pre order list for one and a bunch of DE Pmags.
