Fixed term contract and redundancy during maternity leave

I have been working in a company for the past 2 years on a fixed trem contract due to expire in March. I am pregnant and due end of April. Since last week I am out of work with a slipped disc and cannot return to work before the babys birth.

During this time my fixed term contract will expire in March. I presume I can be made redundant on this date as the end date was known to be on commencing contract. Or is there a possibility they cannot make me redundant whilst on maternity health leave ?

Hiya as far as I know you are covered under the Maternity Protection Act against dismissal when you are on maternity leave. If I were you I would come off sick leave and go on maternity leave asap therfored this protects against your dismissal. Contact a solicitor or the citizens information advise bureau to get more information on this matter
