Just back from Defiance - not bad. Strong performances and very lengthy in a positive way. By no means an action film but it inevitably does feature, bit too gung ho in spots but all in all, a worthwhile watch. Not actually very violent in a general sense, with most of the killing taking on that same 'action' feel, so it is mostly suitable for somewhat younger audiences. This isn't a Schlinders List or Saving Private Ryan, despite the subject matter.

Now to see which is better: Defiance or Valkyrie. My moneys still on the latter.

I agree with you on most of that, however i cant stand the sight of tom cruise. Defiance is a very good movie in comparison to something like quantum of solace, dont think i will ever watch valkyrie as ive seen a feature length documentary on the real thing and cruise's american accent playing a german would annoy me no end.

A small additional point on defiance is that the filmakers claim it to be based on true events but they are not the ones portrayed in the movie. Its definitely worth going to see but if you want historical accuracy then you can find it on the net or on some of the more learned posts on the imdb ratings......taken at face value, its a 7.5/8 out of 10 for me with some excellent acting and a heart warming story.

I found it to just drag on and on. They get attacked and rebuild their camp elsewhere, get attacked rebuild their camp elsewhere, get attacked rebuild their camp elsewhere.. the story just seemed to be going nowhere and it didnt really. Other than the character interactions there was no real story to tell here.

It could've done with being 30 minutes shorter tbh, even then it would have been a very average film. The only aspect of the film I enjoyed were the performances from the 4 brothers, that was about it.

Just back from Defiance. Not bad. Depressing. Kind of agree with the point that it went from hiding, walking, hiding, walking, etc.

Havent seen Valkrye yet but want to. One way in which it will be better then Defiance is that from what I hear, Tom Cruise doesnt attempt to do a German Accent. In Defiance, if both Daniel Craig and Liev Schriver made the effort to learn Russian&sounded very competent doing so, why then didnt they learn to speak Belrussian cos them speaking English with a German twang came across terribly, nearly as bad as Tom Cruise doing his Oirish thing in Far&Away.

Dont know what is worse, actors trying to do Irish or German accents.
