Discussion falling out of For Sale sticky

To be honest I think the individual thread thing works better. A thread like this will quickly get very long, with the first load of pages full of old stuff and with multiple things being sold and discussed it will all get very confusing. (I find the stuff for trade thread pretty much like this, think it would work a lot better in multiple threads or in that case indeed on the wiki.)

mod edit: moved from sticky to declutter it

Just ban discussion from this thread?

That doesn't exactly help either, I like a bit of discussion and banter on anything for sale. You see that in the (relatively few) swaps that have worked out OK on the trade thread- there is a bit of back and forth etc. Similarly on threads here. TBH I think it's better just to allow threads with people selling stuff, discussion on those items is all then on the one thread and easy to follow. So far this has not got out of hand.

An alternative if people were really irked by FS: threads would be a "for sale" subforum.

How can you tell it works better after 2 posts? Let it play out for a couple of weeks and then we can see.

I can see merit in both sides of this myself tbh. While it does arguably make sense to have a FS stcky and keep it all in the one location, I don't really think there are too many FS threads and I do agree with blorg re the banter and also that the stickied thread will grow and take on a life of it's own and may get confusing as it sometimes does in the 'parts for trade' sticky. I don't know if it would be a viable option but it might help that if a bike, for example, is sold, that posts relating to that sale are then deleted by mods... may not work for various reasons - just throwing it out there

I don't think a sticky is necessary -so long as any threads that pop up are clearly marked (ie, the title is FS: bla bla bla) you can choose to ignore them or not. I quite like 'em as they've been the source of a few bargains thanks to Mr Skeffingtons seemingly regular house clearances :)

If clearly marked, they can be ignored by those who don't want to see them. Only problem I can forsee is that there's no problem with horse trading and stuff on this forum that would result in bans etc from Adverts, but that's just a small issue!

If there was a poll, I'd vote for seperate threads.

Those "no unreasonable offer refused" threads are most entertaining.

I think the sticky could work if it was limited to "notice on adverts only" and all chat was restricted to replies to the actual ad. Of course, that would remove all of the fun of being able to reply to the ads from the comfort of the cycling forum.

However, I can see the sticky quickly becoming pointless as links to ads are lost under pages and pages of replies/euro-baiting, but as Uberwolf says I suppose it deserves a week or two before we start "death by poll".

as Tiny has alluded to, an alternative I had considered was a mandated thread title - i.e FS Marin Mount Vision 5.9 or similar.

Anywho, I can edit a poll into this thread in a fortnight or month or so, and let the population decide - All I'm trying to do is create a better experience for you.
