    Hello

My sister's laptop won't let her log onto her user a/c - windows Vista. It is the only a/c she has on the laptop. She is refused access and prompted to insert a reset password disc or something to that effect

How would she get this annoyance to stop. And allow her to log on?

Urgently need this answered as she has course work on the computer due Monday.

    thanks in advance

    Press Ctrl+alt+del

    Enter Administrator as the username

This should work assuming no one has set the administrator password

Did she by any chance create a reset password disk??

Isn't the administrator account disabled on vista by default?

    Hmm, possibly.

Could boot up with a linux disk and use the accessibility hack to get access to the desktop but I won't post details here cos it's a security exploit.

i'm trying to talk her through how to fix it over the phone...

she's nearly in tears bout this.

Please help. Is there a way to reset passwords through the advanced boot options?

PS, i barely know what i'm doing

Yep it is, you have to activate it..

    Taken from Microsoft support...
If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.

Is this definitely a password issue and she definitely had a password on her account?.

CAPS LOCK button on by any chance??

If you want to post it then post it. Given the context of the thread I wouldn't have a problem with it.

first thing i told her to check...

    the login screeb comes up

she only has one a/c - it won't let her log in using her normal password

with xp if there was a password protected account if ya click cancel on the login screen, it should log in to the guest acc, dunno if its the same with vista

A bootcd would do the job.
    Here or

    Ultimate boot cd for window

Basically, it's to do with renaming command.com to accesibility.exe and loading that from the Login screen with Start+A
