Advice on VW Gti

    Hi,

I've got an 05 GTI (DSG) that I'm looking to sell due to a recent arrival in the family. I've looked at the OMV on ros.ie and it comes up with a value of €23,700. I'm just wondering what price people think I should offer it at to attract a decent level of interest? I've seen everything from 20k to 24k on carzone etc but that's mainly for manuals with higher mileage than mine. (36k)

Was looking to trade it in against an Audi A6 but one dealer was only offering me 16-17k for the car!!

I would imagine that 16-17k isnt a bad trade in price from a dealer at the minute.

Bear in mind, your car has a large petrol engine, not the best fuel economy in the world, and would be hard to ensure for a lot of people.

The book value of a 5dr with that mileage is about €21,000. A 3dr is worth maybe a grand less.

Cars are not getting their full value at the minute, car sales are slow, i'd say that's a good, if not brave trade in value.

Also bear in mind, the OMSP on the ROS website is massively over estimated.

You could buy a 08 GTI for 24k OP. Recession and new model around the corner.

You're talking 16k retail - you'd be lucky to even get 13k for it on a trade in I'd say.

    is it a 3 or 5 dr?

My advise would be to advertise it privately and hold out for a better price and then go and buy with hard cash from a dealer.

Even the 3dr version had isofix and I don't see how you would have too many problems with getting a baby seat in and out of the back seat. You could live with it for a while if it meant getting a better price.

I have a 5dr GTi 18 months old and have the first nipper on the way .... that is why I didn't go for the 3dr at the time! ;)

To be honest i'd say a three door is worth that bit more than a five door, being a GTI and what not. I wouldn't go by the book value lol, it's generally useless.

I remember hearing of a 07 GTI selling for 19K. OP if you are getting 17K on a trade in i would be fairly quick to take it. The car is four years old.

well I'm selling my 3-door DSG GTI 07 in a couple of weeks and expect to get only 20k. You can't import 1 from the UK at that price but there's a glut of them in Ireland at the moment and possible market is in resession.

So would not agree the OP should bite the hand off the dealer?

Forget what you are being offered for the GTi as a trade-in. The important price is the "cost to trade up" price.
