Wow it just got emailed to us,
it is the first time in the four years in college that I was impressed by how open and transparent the college has been in telling us something like this.

Why are you impressed? The existing calendar has been available on the website forever, of course they needed to notify us of changes.

I got the email too, but from my department (CS) rather than from college as a whole, which suggests not everyone may have got it. College aren't being transparent, your department is. (what department is that, actually?)

Yea. I got it from the CS Dept.

Nothing from the Engineering Dept. so far..

Yeah I got it from CS. Not that there's any other dept that'd send me anything :(

    jmccrohan:

Are you doing computer engineering or something that you're part of two departments? I thought you just did engineering, but then I was going on a computer in LG12 the other day and it had your user-name up as the last person to log on :o

SF Eng get access to LG12 because of 2E3, the Comp Sci element to Engineering. JF don't seem to though..

    I'm in 2nd year eng.

1st year eng have time restricted access to the ict huts (and the debian machines in lg12 if if you can get in there in the first place (permissions are borked ;))).

2nd year eng have full access cs accounts.

3rd+4th year comp eng + comp/electronic eng continue to have full access cs accounts. Those who do civil, mech and elec get their accounts revoked afaik.

CS got it to me too. It's horrible. Protest, anyone?

Couldn't see an easter break on it, but there was a christmas break. Is this how it's done in other colleges?
EDIT: Just noticed a note about it at the bottom of the timetable, but it just gives the idea that easter will usually fall into the "Revision Weeks" in April or something. Kinda unclear.

It's being brought in regardless.. A lot of departments don't even want this brought in, but they are being railroaded into doing it by the college.

    I know man. It's digraceful.

TBH, if we just ignored it and carried on regardless, I think we'd be all right.

Who are in turn being railroaded into it by [some European directive]. What's Oxbridge doing?

    What is wrong with it?

Well, neither the History nor the Engish department have deigned to let us know anything... Which is quite annoying while not at all surprising.

What date in September do we start back on? TCD site is exceedingly uninformative about all this...

Could someone post up the bones of it?? I mean term dates, holidays, exam dates etc. I know it's probably still a bit provisional and also the email from your department may be just for you etc but even a rough guide would be cool so others have a clue what your talking about. :)

Didn't realise summer exams would be so soon after teaching ends! How will Trinity Monday and the event that shall not be named fit in? Surely College should really get around to announcing some official details on this, rather than students having to learn about it on boards.

Aye.. I was wondering about the liathroid myself..

    April is far too early..

That said.. Having it at the end of the exams would be pretty awesome. :D

Email said "almost 100% certain" and "I am again almost 100% certain that there will be no Christmas examinations in the future". I assume that is not just for CS ppl :)

Hmm well the only thing my department has confirmed is that there will indeed be Christmas exams for us, taking place in week 12 though so I suppose it isn't so bad, still get the 4 week break.

Everyone finishes at different times. Were that the case last year, I'd have been hanging on for a week and a half for it. I mean for those who want to go away for the summer, it wouldn't really work.
