Hills in Sandyford area?

    Hiya

Just started training for my first marathon this week (Belfast in May) and my training plan calls for 7/8/9 etc x 200m hills on certain days. I do most of my midweek training at lunchtime and I work on the Quays in town so they are all pretty flat routes so I need to do this at home. Therefore I was wondering if anyone knew of a route/hill in the Sandyford area that I could use for this particluar aspect of my training?? Haven't done much running around home as I have never really had any call for long weekend runs before which will obviously change now and also as already mentioned, I run a few miles most days at work which was just for general fitness rather than being goal specific for a marathon etc

    Cheers

Could you do them in Phoenix Park? Warm-up jog to Phoenix Park, then hills as used in the Adidas race series?

I had thought about this but I am actually at the other end of town on Sir John Rogersons Quay so it would be a push to get up there and back during my lunch break. Cheers though.

the Dublin mountains are just beyond Sandyford. Look up!

If you've ever noticed the masts/aeriels up there you can run to them on tarmac road, via Ticknock.

There's loads of great routes nearby suitable for hill work. Have a look on mapmyrun.com

We use these spots - Tick Knock (great if there's daylight!) Glenamuck Road, Enniskerry Road (Aikens Village to Parkview), dundrum-bypass and Fosters Avenue (to the peak at mount anville)

Throw in Newtownpark Avenue, Cornerscourt Hill, Killiney Hill, Glencullen Road, but as others pointed out, Ticknock is the handiest.

the best hill around here is probably on sandyford road from entrance of killcross to top of the hill, nice and steep and has a wide well lit footpath + cycle track that seldom has anyone on it.

Thanks Folks. Plenty to work with for my long runs as well as the hills.
