The Lucy Kennedy Show (Read Rules before Posting)

The last Lucy Kennedy Show thread became unmanagable, so we're starting a new one with very strict ground rules.

    Allowed:
    - talk about the show
    - the format
    - the presenter
    - the good bits
    - the bad bits.

    Not Allowed:
    - bad language
    - personal abuse directed towards the presenter - that includes how she looks, how she talks, how she got the job in the first place, etc.
    - personal abuse directed towards people who have a different opinion to you (theres bound to be some out there!) - keep it civil.

Any breach of the rules will result in the post being deleted, the poster getting an infraction on first offense, and a 1 month ban on second offense.

Note - we're not going to edit posts that break the rules. We'll just remove the whole post. You could write an award winning post with the solution to all of RTE's problems, the next weekend's winning lotto numbers, the answer to world peace, and Beyonce's phone number, and we'll still delete it if it breaks the rules.

Aaaand now people are afraid to fart in the vicinity of this thread, never mind post in it. :D

I haven't watched it as I know what it'll be like. But I'll reserve critcism or praise (doubtful, but stranger things have happened) until I have nothing better to do but sit and watch it.

She's a pawn in RTE's attempt to emulate British television in every way possible.
Kennedy is supposed to be RTE's laddish lady - the kind that Davina McCall does so well out of.

Is it abusive to say that she is an incompetent, inept and generally **** presenter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,170 ✭✭✭scout353

Think it is a poor attempt at copying the american late night shows - the commentary on the news at the top of the show is very Jay Leno without the polished delivery!

The only feature that has any merit is her impression of Amy Winehouse - at least there is a resemblence!!!! But why do some of our celebrities allow themselves to be ridiculed like that!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 845 ✭✭✭nhughes100

    - talk about the show - Ok how did 180,000 people tune into this on the first week, did the figures stay solid for the next show?

    - the format - 30 minutes is far too long. By about 30 minutes.

    - the presenter - I think it would be a good idea to have a rota for presenters, they could still call it the Lucy Kennedy show if they like

    - the good bits - Nope, not yet.

    - the bad bits. - I only say the first two or three minutes of the first show, that'll do me for bad bits.

I watched the start of it tonight

I sat through the first "monologue" joke about Obama

Something about a wasps nest causing a bit of a disturbance at the inauguration

Now I thought "W.A.S.P.S" and was expecting a punchline about white middle aged Americans

No, the punchline was something along the lines of "Police sent in a SWAT" team

    She's not a comedian

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 339 ✭✭RodVelvet

She seems to look very uncomfortable when she does her pseudo monologues. The writers the Gildeas I think, have a comedy background though it's not very apparent by the script.

Carol Tobin looks kinda nice on the panel possibly a highlight. Maybe they could get Dave McSavage to co-present and call it "The Lucy Kennedy Show Gets Savaged" much like the nature of this thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,825 ✭✭✭robo

The Obama skit was just woeful...not a bit funny.
I don't like the set where there are the 4 black and white pictures of the presenter...it is a bit OTT.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Linku

Turned this off after about 5 minutes.

I can't believe there's a monologue, it was so painful to watch. And they must have just drafted in the first black man they could find for the ridiculously unfunny Obama sketch.

Good bits? The studio looks alright I guess. Apart from the wall of portraits in the background.

how can talking about she obtained the job as presenter be not allowed. This is a forum after all. And what would be wrong with saying that someone looked rather sore on the eye if one honestly felt that way? Does speaking of her character count as abuse?

How was she rumoured to have gotten the job? Of how did she get it? I've not heard anything except the show's rubbish!

this is the most i've ever been able to tolerate
rte voiceover: "and stay with us now up next we have lucy ke...."
    click channel changed!

how can talking about she obtained the job as presenter be not allowed.
Because it quickly descends into speculative , groundless insults. Let's just leave it as :

"How did she get the job?"
"Well, She applied, and Rté have very low standards as far as hiring presenters is concerned".

    Will that do?
And what would be wrong with saying that someone looked rather sore on the eye if one honestly felt that way?

Nothing, if the thread you were posting on was called "How does Lucy Kennedy look". However, this thread is about her show, not her physical appearance.

Lets imagine for a minute that you have a job, say on a building site, and you're due an appraisal. Now imagine that on this appraisal form (Ranked above marks for competency, ability, skills and performance) there's a line reading "Minger Y/N?" Do you think that reflects the correct order of attributes for an employee to be judged on?

As in most fields of employment, your personal opinion on how a person looks have no bearing on how they do their job.

The No personal comments rule was not put in place because people shouldn't think bad things, the rule was put in place because people began to post in reference to physical attributes instead of how poor the actual show was. In short, it's a moron filter, enabling the thread to stay live.

(Just in case anyone's thinking I've suddenly converted: The show still stinks and that Obama sketch was an embarrassment of Killinaskully proportions)

Saw this for the first time tonight. Lucy's presenting skills are pretty wooden alright...altho Shayne Ward's pretty face more than made up for it :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 785 ✭✭✭Shane10

Watched the show for the first time last night. Not great tbh. Seemed very rushed and trying to squeeze as much as possible into such a short time.

wonderwoman and whatever the other ones where called was just about tolerable but still questioned how it got on tv, now with this lucy show its getting worse.

    SHAYNE WARD :D

I might be the only one but i'm a fan of Lucy Kennedy - she is a better presenter that the Seoige sisters and Kathryn Thomas - she has personality at least

Her show reminds me Chelesa Lately from E

The first ten minutes of the first episode with Ryan Tubridy were so cringe-inducing. Terrible show, I will never watch it again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 466 ✭✭aquascrotum

Have to say, I'd normally watch a bit of LK as I'd be of the opinion that she's easy on the eye and her previous stuff was watchable in a kind of "fade out with a glass of wine with the girlfriend" viewing.

But this is godawful cringeworthy unwatchable sh*te.

Even the gf, who's taste in TV is at best questionable, had to turn it off.

Is this on every night, or something? Is it a chat show, or trying to be a Graham Norton style chat show? I'm sorry, I have no idea what it's about, and didn't even know it existed. Maybe I should leave it at that...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,570 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Once a week (Tuesday night) and I think its repeated on Friday night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,486 ✭✭✭manafana

It should never be repeated to spare the innocent ones from harm.

is this yet another show where people from RTE interview each other about their latest show and there's a handful of other guests from the country's tiny pool of z-list celebrities?

    Yes.
All female TV presenters are picked on their competency, ability, skills and performance.

It is woeful! I actually made the point of finding this thread just to say that. I'm sure she is a nice person but that ad for the show, those photos of her behind her on the set, those awful jokes and her wooden presenting all equal rubbish and I really did give it a chance - watched every episode so far!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 785 ✭✭✭Shane10

as i said before i like lucy but this show is terrible. it seems like it was put together in a couple of weeks. the jokes at the start are brutal, there not even jokes. and that whole "oh make yourself comfortable on the couch" thing is just awh nooooo. shouldnt come back after the 5 show run it has now.
