    Hey

Does anyone know if any of the city libraries are any good for academic books. Im studying a psych course thru distance learning, and i really miss being able to use a campus library to do some extra reading on the subject etc..

I already checked if im eligible to join ucd, dit and trinitys libraries using the Sconul scheme but they say they dont accept distance learners :(

    Thanks

I haven't really tried the libraries myself yet, but did you already try the online search? http://libcat.dublincity.ie/cgi-bin/dublin-cat.sh?

Both DCU and UCD offer external membership to the general public. Might be worth while looking into it to see if you qualify, although it's not cheap.

Public libraries, in general, aren't fantastic when it comes to academic books. This is mainly due to cost. Your best bet would possibly be the library in the Ilac centre or Blanchardstown library. The latter would have a greater selection than most but the majority would be reference books only.

You should be able to order books through Inter-library loan.

However, if your distnace learning course does not come with access to Athens, nor have internet access to journal articles/books charpters posted on the college Moodle then I would respectfully suggest that it may not be a respectable/accredited course.

There's an awful lot of suspect courses in psychology, which are more geared towards raking in the money than qualifying students with recognised qualifications. Thatmay not be the case with your course, of course.
