I have already asked them but i am still waiting on a reply.
Would anybody know from past experiences i.e. skirmishes, which silencers would be good for my situation, thanks anyway

The main reasons to get a silencer is to make your AEG look even more bad ass. Hide a barrel extension. Illuminate tracer rounds and in some bizarre and extreme cases they are even used to actually silence an airsoft gun.

I have just been looking into getting a silencer for my gun. From what I have seen there are two types of silencer. The only thing distinguishing them is the direction you will turn it to screw it on. Either clockwise (CW), or what seems to be more common, counter clockwise (CCW). You don't really need to worry about the thread size, they all appear to conform to a standard of 14mm (The only exception I have seen is one silencer for a Socom pistol)

So the first thing you need to do is to take off your flash hiders to check what direction you have to turn them in order to tighten them. Even if its opposite directions for both your guns there are silencers available that come with adaptors which will allow it to thread both CW and CCW.

Have a look here, it will give you a better idea of what's available.

I really like this one. I would have gotten it but it doesn't seem to come in a CCW version.

Whereas something like this is supplied with an adaptor to fit both CW and CCW.

    Hello all,

I recently purchased a Dboys M16 SPR off eirsoft, but i would like to add a silencer.
Would anybody know what silencer that i could use on it, but I also would like that silencer to fit my m4 CQBR.
I was thinking of either the Gemtech G5 or HALO off MIA, but i am unsure which one will fit both the AEGs
Thanks for the help, which will be greatly appreciated.

the links for the various items are here:
    This is the SPR: http://www.eirsoft.ie/store/product_info.php?cPath=22_29&products_id=100&osCsid=f671cbc6216dfe0f2977253e706df29d
This is the M4 CQBR: http://www.eirsoft.ie/store/product_info.php?cPath=22_29&products_id=4&osCsid=f671cbc6216dfe0f2977253e706df29d
This is the Gemtech G5: http://www.mainirishairsoft.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=352
This is the Gemtech HALO: http://www.mainirishairsoft.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=353

I have the Gemtech HALO on my KWA M4, AFAIK it fits most M4 types and looks deadly, contact the retailer for more info.

But the fitting on the SPR is different as far as I know. I don't think that I can get the HALO as I need a flash-hider like the one that comes with the G5, but i am not sure if that flash-hider will fit the complete length of my barrel as the current flash-hider, the one that came with it, barely covers the full length of the barrel.

I am still awaiting a reply off Eirsoft.

They have a thread in the retailers section http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055122309. Why don't you ask them here? To ensure a swift and efficient answer just mention that you have cookies:D

Hey Mini, our email has been a little clogged lately and I've only just spotted this thread today. We have the Halo silencers as well as the Quicksilver ones (though not the G5) in stock and Doc and I have tried them on just about every rifle we do. The Halo fits anything with an A1 or birdcage flash hider, which means it certainly fits the CQB-R (our display one is currently rocking a Halo).

The SPR is a bit trickier as the silencer for it is a specific 22mm CW threaded one. However, on the DBoys SPR, that flash hider can be removed in it's entirity to leave a standard 14mm CCW thread with about an inch and a half of the inner barrel exposed. You can either thread a silencer like the Quicksilver or any regularly threaded silencer straight onto this (with or without an extension), or get a barrel extension (to cover the inner barrel) and an Armalite style flash hider to take the Halo silencer.

The G5 is a quick release silencer that requires you to replace your flash hider with the one that comes with it as it has a Dzus type fastner that mates with the silencer. The G5 silencer is useless without the G5 flash hider so if you want to transfer the silencer to another rifle, you'll have to transfer the flash hider too. It's not a silencer we carry generally, your link is to a different shop. We can get it though.

    Thanks for the advice.
I will have a think about it over the next few days, but i might end up getting the G5 as it comes with a flashhider

Point to note with the G5 if you're being swayed by the flash hider. The Halo doesn't need a new flash hider to use on the CQB-R and the G5 flash hider won't work on the SPR without a barrel extension. The Halo is a better silencer overall as it's got better baffling than the G5 so the flash hider included is of no real advantage over just getting a Halo.

But if i do get the G5, Where would I get a barrel extension for the SPR?
Or if i get a HALO, is there any way for it to fit my SPR?

The barrel extension and a bog standard birdcage flash hider can be picked up anywhere online. Ebaybanned do them for peanuts.

I am not sure what a barrel extension is supposed to look like but i have a feeling that it is supposed to be one of these items on http://www.wgcshop.com/ : Item numbers: NICE-ACC-OB01 or ELE-OT0220

Would this bird cage flash hider work on the SPR: http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.php?products_id=35 or this one: http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.php?cPath=68_48&products_id=1434

As long as you don't mind having an inch or so of the barrel protruding into the silencer when it's attached (most of my silencers are just there to hide longer inner barrels anyway, so as long as you leave them on it still works), then that second flash hider is ideal.

If you want the option of swapping the silencer between guns you might be using on the same day, try using that second flash hider with this extension to cover the exposed barrel, or this kit which gives you the barrel extension and flash hider together. It also looks pretty nifty too with the heat dissipater dimples so it'll look good with or without the silencer and still protect your barrel.

So if i was to get this, would it swap on and off the SPR like the flash hider that came with the SPR? and then this just screws onto that barrel extension's top end?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Yup, that's it. You should confirm yourself where your barrel ends by taking off that flash hider assembly from the SPR. On occasion I've seen the inner barrel end at the screw thread so taking off the flash hider didn't expose any of the barrel. If that's the case with yours, all you need is that this flash hider with no extension at all. Job done.

And after all of this, I should be getting the HALO? right?
Thanks a million and is it true that ebaybanned have free shipping?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

The Halo is probably the best airsoft silencer on the market. The baffle system on it, combined with the diameter of the chamber means it actually works as a proper silencer with noticeable effect, rather than just sitting there and looking good (which it also does rather well). It's even licensed by Gemtech, who make the RS Halo silencer, so it has pedigree.
It'll also be the best choice from the standpoint of you being able to swap it onto other rifles without hassle.

Ebaybanned say they have free shipping, but the shipping is just included in the price. What you see is what you pay though, there are no extra charges.

Thanks for all the help, I will get the halo but i still can't make my mind up between this and these two. They are both so cool and look brilliant but which would be better with the HALO?

My next problem with the SPR is the mag doesn't sit in the mag well properly and doesnt feed unless i push and hold it up. More than likely can be solved by buying a new mag, right?

And can this AEG take a 9.6v battery?

    Thanks again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

It's personal choice really, they'll both work with the Halo so it's just whatever you prefer the look of. Like I said though, pop off the flash hider on the SPR before you order anything, you may not even need the extension piece.

It could well be the mag, they take standard M4/M16 type mags anyway so you could either buy or borrow one just to test if it's loading. If the new one is loading, it's the mag, if the new one isn't loading, it's a problem closer to the hop or maybe the mag release catch.

You shouldn't have any trouble using a 9.6v battery in her.

I forgot to mention a while ago that i did check the SPR and i need a barrel extension.

I will buy a new mag as i don't know anybody locally who has a m4/ m16 and i have also heard reports about the spr's mag not fitting.

Thanks again for all your help and advice.

No problem. If you want to bring the rifle with you to the shop, we can check a different mag in it first to see if that really is the problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭MiniNukinfuts

I am down in cork, no worries, i need a new mag anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭MiniNukinfuts

Before i do buy this, is it definatley able to be put onto the SPR. I dont want to buy it and realise that it won't fit. The item detcription on ebaybanned isnt the best and doesn't say if it is CCW or CW.

How long do it take for ebaybanned to ship also?
