Hey folks, I'm looking to get new set of cymbals (including hi-hats) as my current ones are... let's just say they're not the best. Anyway I have a limited budget (150 euro max) which I know doesn't help when buying cymbals but if anyone has any suggestions for a good all-round set then it would be much appreciated

    Hey
You'll do well to get a decent set for that price.
I'd look into a good set of second hands.
Maybe some used Sabian XS20's, they're prob the best of the entry level(ish)
    eBay is your friend :P

Really you're not going to get much for €150. Cymbals are hard to buy all in one go without spending an absurd amount of money and not end up with something ****e. This isn't what you want to hear, but in my opinion it's the best way to go in the long term - focus on particular cymbals and get a decent one and just bide your time and save. If what you have is at least useable, maybe getting a decent set of hats now will keep you satisfied until you can save for a decent crash or the likes to add to it. I know the tempation is there to get a set of B8's or something like that, but they're horrible to the ear. If you can exercise patience you'll be a lot happier in the long run.

Thanks for the replies, I suppose I don't have much choice other than to buy new ones gradually

So let me re-phrase the question, does anyone know where I could get a good cymbals or hi-hat set for 150?

Your best bet is to head into the shops and try out some different brands, see which ones sound better to you. As already mentioned, the Sabian XS20 are decent for the money and you can get them pretty cheap on adverts - I picked up a 18" crash for €60 a few weeks ago.

I don't suppose anyone would know any good shops in the Laois/Offaly area?
