I know you may have seen these bikes suggested to others here before but if you consider the Planet X SL Pro Carbon Ultegra build for £999 (self assembly). You'd have the job of putting it together (not so difficult) but you'd be getting a lot more for your money

I know nothing about it apart from what I see. But gosh do I like what I see.

Cheers. It's definitely one of the ones under consideration. Is there any other significant difference apart from the fact that the Planet-X is Ultegra-equipped (these days) whereas the Pinnacle is 105?

I wonder how the two bikes compare, weight-wise? (Not that I'm a slip of a thing or whatever...)

I think the main differences really are the drive chain - the pinnacle has 105 and seems to put the saved money into FSA finishing kit whereas the Planet X has ultegra and runs in house finishing kit which is every bit as good, just costs them less. Regarding the wheels the pinnacle runs those alex numbers which reviews hardly praise and the planet x uses in house which seem to have a good reputation. Can't find enough info on the bike weights to say more though...

Thanks for that. I gather the Pinnacle is around 7.8kg. Not sure about the Planet-X. I was just curious, though, because I notice the Focus Cayo 2009 is nearly a kilo heavier than the Pinnacle...

But how much faith do you have in quoted weights? What size frame are they weighing?

There seems to be loads of choice for well-specced aluminium framed/carbon forked bikes under £1000, but as you as you add in full carbon the rest of the spec heads south (apart from Focus maybe).

Well, in the absence of other data, it's all I have to go on. Apparently that weight is for a 56cm Pinnacle.
