    Hello Folks,
I have posted already on different boards, but i would like to get as many of your opinions as possible. I'm an MSc student in DCU, and I'm completing my dissertation this year. I'm doing research on Dublin's taxi industry. The ultimate aim of the research is to improve the working conditions and service level of the taxi service as a whole.

If you are have a few spare minutes, please fill in the survey below. As I said, the research is aimed at bettering the current situation. Also, any points you would like to contribute, please post on the thread.

Please click HERE for the survey.

If you are a taxi or PSV driver, please fill in THIS survey

    Many thanks,
    Steve

    Hello all,

I've had a great response to the survey so far. I'm very interested in getting the views of those who have difficulty travelling within dublin. This is not so much a survey about how the service is, but how it SHOULD be.

The level of detail some participants went into is indicitive of the frustration felt by many, particularly drivers. My sincere thanks to all who have given their time already. If there are any particular issues, or ways you think the taxi system could be improved, please post on the forum.

There seems to be almost universal acceptance that the taxi industry is in a complete shambles. Universal, except of course for the Taxi Regulator herself, and the Minister for Transport.

Your initiative is commendable, but I fail to understand one thing.

How do you put a case for redressing the situation to people who a) refuse to believe there is a problem, and b) are resolutely determined to press ahead with failed policies, despite all advice to the contrary?

    Hey HydeRoad,

    Thanks for the interest!

Well firstly I am going to get raw data. This data will be derived from the questionnaires. One of the issues is the continued increase in taxi drivers. A lot of the new drivers are people who have come upon tough times and had little other option but to become taxi drivers. Had they not become taxi drivers, a large portion would have inevitably become dependant on the state. Even so, the Taxi Regulator does not have the authority to cap the number of licences being given out, who is touted as the source of the issue.

The issues go far deeper than one person. And it is the collection and analysis of both the survey, together with the data already in the public domain that hopefully will create an argument. However, because of the nature of the research, I cannot assume that any issue (if there is one) is the result of a particular circumstance. To put it short, I’ve to keep an open mind.
