    Hi,

In a clean up operation on the PC I was uninstalling software I hadn't used for a while and mistakenly deleted the complimentary DVD playing software I received reinstalled on my three year old DELL Dimension 5100.

I think it was called PowerDvD but I'm not sure - tried looking for it on download.com but couldn't find it.

Does anyone know of anyway I can resurrect this from the PC or recommend another download to just play DVD's

    many thanks

    Spfeno

VLC (VideoLAN Client) is a pretty good one-size-fits-all media player. It'll handle a lot of different video types thrown at it (does a good job on sorting out codecs for different formats). And it'll play DVDs.

    Open source, free software:

Versions I've used have been prone to crashing if you fast forward or rewind while playing DVDs - but with each release it has got more stable.

Same here. Thank you. Deleted CinePlayer due to a security issutypoe and only then realised that RealPlayer and all of the others must piggyback something that it had in order to play DVDs!

PowerDVD contained some/most/all of the codecs required by the system to decrypt the data on the DVD for playback.

You can recover the functionality by installing the K-Lite codec pack:
