    Hello All,

Im going to be hungry later and will be desperate. Im in the Clarion right now and although I do like kudos Im not bothered tonight because I have a DVD and want to stay in the room.

Sooooooo, I need a good chinese takeaway. What is the best?

Bearing in mind - tonight 14th Jan and hungry.

Not sure if Kings in the Wine Street car park still do takeaways. Its a great restaurant.

King's went seriously SERIOUSLY downhill after they re-opened... myself and the girlfriend loved it. Tried it once after it re-opened and it really wasn't great - we thought it was a once-off so ordered again a few weeks later - it was worse!

However, I used to avoid Peking House on Pearse Road but have a Chinese takeaway from there once a week now. And is absolutely amazing food each time without fail - it'll arrive between 15 - 20 minutes later (presume you live in town... which you are more or less in the Clarion) and will be piping hot.

Recommendations would be the House Special Chop Suey, Chicken Szeuchan, Honey Chicken with Chilli Sauce, Honey Chicken with Fruity Sauce. Not a big fan of their curries though - too thick but that's all up to preference.

    Cannot recommend it enough!

Their menu and phone number is on TakeAwayFood.ie:

Choose 'Sligo' as County, 'Sligo' as Town and 'Chinese/Thai' as Cuisine. Enjoy!

What a shame about Kings...it used to be great.

I gave up on the Peking House after we had Chicken and cashews (that didn't have cashews in it twice).

Luckily we have a great chinese in Coolaney:D

Im living in the Clarion until 7:45am tomorrow and will definately consider Peking House. I will drive down and collect it. I hate waiting for delivery drivers and I dont want a chinese delivered to a hotel with an asian kitchen. It does not score the hotel any points for karma and Im a frequent guest and have sold equipment to the Chef.

They have a menu on takeawayfood.ie
    http://www.takeawayfood.ie/cgi-bin/go.cgi

I cant go the menu because my local chinese in Tipperary has a great menu but bland food.

I dont like chop suey, szeuchan but every other recommendation you gave sounds good.

    Thank you.

There's another one with fruity sauce if you'd prefer that - it's not listed there but it's the 62A (it's so sad that I actually know that! :o).

Not sure about the wantons, but I've had the Deep fried Chicken with Chilli and it is lovely... recommend it!

You might get some free curry puffs with it. Let us know if you enjoy it!

Mmmm, I love Peking House - just down the street from my old house - it was dangerous ;)

The chilli chicken is full of win, and their omlettes are delish as well.

only one i would recomend is behind the optitions on wine street, cant remember the name, is just arcross from the enterance to tesco carpark, you have to go down a hallwall to get into it, fantastic for takeaway, any time i go in restrarant is packed, not sure if open during week though

I heard there was a Chinese restaurant in Strandhill. Can anybody confirm this on deny it? Much appreciated. I hope they deliver.

Mandarin Court.. it's fantastic too - the best sit-down Chinese in Sligo.

The only problem is you pay sit-down prices for their take-away... you may as well go in for a meal if you're paying the full price for it.

Yep - Jade Garden.. though it's hit and miss to be honest.

Went for a meal a year or so back (which was lovely) but had a take-away since and that wasn't great at all.

And no, don't think they deliver.

I got my takeaway from the Peking House. No frills about that place is there. Masking tape holding the seat together. Nice :D

    Good food though, really good.

Two massive chicken & cheese rolls. Nice

    &

Deep fried Chicken in a chilli and honey sauce with fried rice. A 1.25ltr of coke from the shop......................NICE!! :D

    Thanks for the recommendations.

I got into the lift of the hotel only to be joined by around 10 giggly girls(chinese in gear bag for smuggling purposes). Girls say "god you can still smell the bar food in the lift". HAHA No, its me - The peasant behind you with a brown bag of food because Im too cheap to eat in the hotel. :D:D:D:D

    :D Glad you ate well!

  • Registered Users Posts: 43,841 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Glad you enjoyed Berty.

Yeah.. the place is in need of a complete over-haul.

That "couch" is shocking.. and that massive menu on the wall has been there years too.

Best Chinese places always look like they're held together with duct tape and a prayer.

The girl's not wrong. Best Chinese restaurant I've been in in this country is up and icky stairs through a crappy door on O'Connell Street in Dublin. Looks pants from outside but the food is nyom.

theres two good chineese resteraunts in sligo worth talking about.

Sakuras and the chineese resteraunt in grange( unbelievable food)

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Xiney

    Sakuras

Overpriced. Nice food, but not worth what they're charging for it, not by a long shot.

Peking House is just as good (possibly even better) and way cheaper.

Agreed... I always thought their vegetables always tasted zapped (microwaved) and overdone.

Also agreed... House Special Chop Suey in Peking House is the best in the town bar none. And I think I've tried them all.

I didn't have their sushi.. I saw it the day I met yourselves and Xiney.

    Not for me! ;)

Hmmm.. it's right across from the Garda Station.

Or to clarify further.. walk up past Envy (up Teeling Street), and go past the Garda Station and it's just up a bit further on the opposite side of the road to the Garda Station (there's a bus stop / shelter across the road).

Cheers! Yeah I know where the Garda Station is but not for any other unsavoury reasons, I'll report back after I get a chance to try it!
