thanks for that info betonit.Went along to dbs open day yesterday, they have a degree course in accountancy&finance available at 2 nights per week over 4 years, the person in admissons said if I complete this course I would get an exemption from ACCa for up to 9 modules and that I would only have to sit the professional papers with Acca .Can any one verify this.

why not just do the ACCA? You could be finished within the 4 years

    Agree

Do the ACCA and get your experience while you are doing it, if you do a degree first you will still have to do 36 months of work experience for your PER. Also you can do ACCA and get a BSc degree in Appl.ACC from Oxford Brookes after the 1st and 2nd year exams are completed by doing a project.

thanks guys for the replies, just am a bit nervous signing up and paying the fees to Acca for a degree as have not much experience in accountancy ,but with dbs the first year is common and i can branch off my initial degree to a different choice.I am going to ask an impossible question, can a person with very very limited knowledge of accountancy other than speaking to friends and have a keen interest in numbers and finance and willing to work hard be able to take on the Acca course and not sink

The initial courses are set-up to bring you up the learning curve in the ACCA.

The reason why the Degree exepts you from 9 of the 14 exams is that you will have pretty much already covered these 9 courses while doing your degree (however, don't take this as confirmation you are guaranteed 9 exeptions...only the ACCA can tell you that!).

First few courses are at about 1st and 2nd year degree level, gradually getting more difficult as you head towards the professional exams at the end (which, again, are not rocket science, just what you have covered before in a little more detail).
