Salary Question

    Hi all

Just wondering if anybody has an opinions on this.

I have currently been working in a company for 6 months on a contract to be renewed at the end of the 6 months. I have plenty experience working in the industry I am in and when I came to the company probably agreed to a smaller salary then I should have. The industry I am in is growing despite the way things are most places and I have been told by the company they are keeping me on and they are really happy with me and I am having my review next week.

The problem is I need to ask for a salary increase in order to keep my head above water at the moment! While I know I have only been here 6 months and that the economy is shaky I know that I have enough experience to get a job elsewhere although I love the company I am working for. My other thing is I was taken on as an Executive job but have ended up doing the job of a Manager and this has been acknowledged by the company.

My question is should I ask for the salary, risk them saying no and then having to leave or should I keep quiet and see if they offer it. I know I am lucky to have a job at the moment!

No manager will offer you a salary increase unless they know you are unhappy and may leave otherwise. It's their job to get the most from their employees for the least amount of money.

I was in a similar situation before and had to repeatedly ask for salary increases because I was getting paid well below market rates. When I found a new job offering 8K more than I was on and handed in my notice, they immediately matched that offer.

I still left as they shouldnt have let it get to that point. You need to state your case at the review, highlight what you bring to the team and why you're worth more money!

    Goodluck with it ;)
