    Hi;

    Thinking of running one or two cross country runs, do you have to use spikes?

    Are spikes expensive?

    Depends, don't know (google it) and you'd be better off posting this in the athletics forum ;)

    I've done 2 of the Bhaa xc now and I'm glad I bought spikes for them, the race last weekend though I did see a fair few lads in their normal runners. I got my pair for 60 euro in Mick Dowlings but I believe you can get them cheaper in JJB in the square.

    You can get fairly cheap spikes about the place - personally I wouldn't splash out on an expensive pair as I only wear them a few times a year.

    If you're taking part in a cross country race wear spikes. You'll footing will be better regardless of the course. Some courses will be impossible to run in flats, others doable but you won't run as well as you would with spikes.

    If your on a real tight budget these are 26 blips in JJb

    I would wear spikes but if you do make sure you wear them on a few short runs before the race day. Myabe its just me but i feel that spikes do put more pressure on the calf area, and with my level of fittness i think my running form does suffer later in an XC run.
    A lot of people have run all the races without spikes but they do help..
