2 weeks into the new year, and i have yet to see a 09 car on the road. This a new record of sorts and a sign of the times.

have you seen one or are they as scarse as hens teeth?

    I've not spotted any either.
I think sales are down something like 65%...mad!

I saw one on the 5th. I have the same 4x4 (A 08) which I would sell at a loss, I know that there are loads ssof 08's for sale, anything up to half price! I remember thinking, that guy is a twonk.

Or else he works for the garage.

Just the 1 for me. First thing on Monday the 5th I had a sales Rep in in a 09 Audi. But then I haven't exactly been looking for them.

part of the problem is garages are not taking in 07 or 08 cars.

Just 2 sofar (mini and kia cee'd), would usually have lost count by now

By the way, a similar thread is thriving in the motors section

It's a record for me too - 14 days in to the new year and still haven't seen one 09 reg anywhere.

I saw one this morning for the first time! I nearly jumped out of my skin with excitement - yes, I need to get a life.

I saw one December 26 on the N4 between Sligo and Collooney. Sligo reg, white (or cream coloured) sedan. I think it was an audi but I didn't make much of an effort to remember.

I'm not on the road much though, so I'm not surprised I haven't seen more.

Nothing worse than seeing someone driving a brand spanking new Nissan Micra. FFS pal that money could have went to a really nice second hand car.

    200. Any number below 200 are reserved for people (councillors, Politicians etc) or people have paid extra to have reserved for them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,813 ✭✭✭themadchef

    Nope havent seen one yet.

I drive a banger. I love not worrying about stone chips, crisp wrappers and polishing it .. lazy biatch. Don't get all upset if someone gets in with mucky shoes.

I love most of all that the bank does not own it :). Ive seen so many people driving around in massive pointless new jeeps/cars and wonder how the feck they are paying for them. Bet some of those people driving those cars have big regrets now.

one was parked beside my lovely 97 seat ibiza in a shopping centre on sat, it was a mercedes... not sure what model though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 491 ✭✭deleriumtremens

Yep, saw some sort of black mercedes, CL class maybe, on the 5th with an 09 reg. Shocked me when I saw it! Fuppin gorgeous looking!

I also saw 2 09 cars while on the bus home from dublin on the 12th. I think one was a BMW 5 series. Cant quite remember the other one. Wasnt an expensive looking car though.

Have only seen 2 myself, (Mondeo & Qashqai) and both were in Tesco's carpark.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,560 ✭✭✭Wile E. Coyote

Have only spotted one so far this year. Was talking to my cousin yesterday who works for a Toyota garage. On the 01st January last year they sold 50 new cars. They have only sold 9 so far this year

That's what the Modified motors part of motors is for.
Not the actual 'Motors' part. Ignorance..great stuff.

I've seen a couple of 2009 cars every day since the 5th of January on.

There is a serious lack of number
    And that be number nine
So come ye folk and buy me cars
Dail coffers filling up - we happy swine!

Buy the cars and pay your tax
    And on the petrol too
But do not drink and drive
    Dead men give no due...

The sales are down with no cars in town
That have a new nine number
So we'll come up with a new tax
    Yes indeed, while ye slumber!

I've seen a few like the new Fiesta but the best has to be the new bin truck collecting here yesterday:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I haven't seen any yet but I did see an 08 Bentley pulling a trailer full of sheepswool outside Tuam. I had to laugh, no wonder there's a recession.

Although a top of the line, brand spanking new tractor costs about as much as a Bentley, probably.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

Motors is much better than that. We have do-gooders, the PC brigade, tight asses, grammar nazis and a fair few genuine enthusiasts that actually have positive input into the forum.

`09 reg. in December `08? Is that possible?

    Possible, yes.

    Legal, no.

No. It was more than likely a new car being test driven with fake garage mock plates on it.
