How is an Open University Degree viewed?

    Hi,

I have an engineering degree and I was looking at branching into energy policy sector. I think that getting a maths degree would help me get into this sector. I was looking at the Maths and Stats degree to help me change my career direction and I would also like to leave my options open for lecturing in the future....I dont ask for much:D

Anyway I was just wondering what the consensus is on the Open University Degree and how this is viewed in industry. If there are any other distance learning options that people recommed that would be great.

    Thanks,

    Shakeydude

Maybe not much help but ....

I have done an OU degree (arts - for personal interest only) and it was a fantastic experience. All the materials etc were brilliant and the courses were perfectly formed and not too stressful.

I also know that that Maths degree is recognised here for teaching of maths at second-level, if that's any help.

No idea about perceptions in industry.

I would have thought it was well thought of.. to complete any course with the OU requires discipline... the courses are excellent as well.

It would probably say more to me if a person completed an OU degree during their twenties rather than a person who had completed an arts degree, or a technical degree, when 19 to 23 in a standard university.
