Duddy V Vera and Lee V Smichet For Paddy's Weekend?

What do you guys think of this? If this was to happen what do you reckon the outcome would be?
I don't know whether the Duddy V Vera fight is just an idea or whether it is actualy going to come off, but Lee's people seem very keen on getting Smichet for his next opponent.
For my money Lee beats Smichet easily, and Duddy V Vera would be an excellent opportunity for him to prove that he can box and not get into a war with a slugger like Vera.

Good fights, I think Lee would take Vera or Smichet as would Duddy.
Have there been any talks of Duddy vs Vera or Lee - Smichet?

Lee's people have been in talks with Smichet and Irish Ropes who have booked Madison Square Garden for March 16th are said to have offered Duddy a way out of his contract if he were to fight under there management on Paddy's weekend possibly against Vera.

Interesting article which seems to imply that Duddy is free to fight now but that Irish Ropes no longer have a promoters licence so proposed Lee fight won't be happening.

The piece paints the McLoughlin's in a very bad light but Hauser doesn't disclose that it was he who recommended Duddy's new management setup to him. George Kimball had mentioned that in a piece recently so Hauser is not exactly unbiased although he is an excellent journalist. I suppose as with all these disputes the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Vera-Duddy is one fight I would pay to see. It has pure excitement written all over it.

Vera is a very dangerous and durable fighter. He is naturally
bigger than John and hits harder. Both have great chins and Vera
will not be as bothered by John's power as John will
    be bothered by Vera's!

I just hope the fight is made at the correct weight and Vera
makes weight. I don't want to hear of Vera weighing in heavy and John's camp
doing a 'Lee' and fighting; whether a contract was agreed or not. Vera is not
a guy that John can afford to give anything!

It has FOTY stamped on it!

John's superior technique and all around boxing
ability will see him earn a hard win. He is a better boxer and a better
boxer than he is given credit for.

Obviously the Hauser article was written from Duddy's perspective, perhaps the McLoughlins were unwilling or unasked for comment. But that aside it makes for very very uncomfortable reading.

The real same of it is that Duddy didnt get the Philips fight which I think he would have won - and therefore now be a legit world champion.

    sad sad sad situation!

In response to those comments, Craig Hamilton declared, “John has more integrity in his little finger than the McLoughlins and Jim Borzell have in their entire bodies put together.”

well either that man is telling the truth or Duddy is a brilliant actor. i doubt it's the latter as he comes across as a decent, straight-forward, down to earth guy that would never shaft anyone.

He is a lot better than he gets credit for. What people don't understand is that Duddy earned a reputation as an exciting fighter who gives everything in the ring and that's why people flock to see him, it is hard for him to turn his back on that style as that is what the people want to see. If Duddy started boxing clever in his bouts would he still fill Madison Square Garden, I doubt it. Look at his last fight against Charles Howe, he used his jab and boxing skill but it was hardly an exciting performance. He is more than capable of boxing instead of fighting but whether he will change is another story.
Duddy V Vera would be one hell of a fight. But how would Duddy handle this? Would he try to box Vera which is the sensible option, or would he revert to his usual brawling style?
It is a dangerous fight for Duddy especially as you pointed out that Vera is the bigger man.
From Vera's point of view, imagine if he beat two of Ireland's best prospects in the space of a year!

Duddy will do what Lee could not and beat Vera.

Vera is naturally bigger and his punches are more powerful, so i think if they get into a brawl, Vera's punches would eventually exact a heavy heavy toll on Duddy, resulting in Vera winning by tko(due to cuts) in the later rounds

Duddy plays to the crowd and ignores his talent and boxing skills. I am not saying he's a Pep or Ali; but he takes too much and too much unnecessarily at times!

Vera is bigger, slower and stronger and hits harder. Duddy is a smallish middle really; Vera is a big middle. Duddy has the ability to out box Vera and beat him to the punch at range. He gets into a brawl and Vera I think will have the strength advantage. He fights anyway clever and he wins via decision!

the above cryptic messege read - "not a chance!"

Anyway - word on the street is that the McLoughlin Brothers are about to fire back at Duddy at his advisors re the Hauser article which will be in a press release that is soon to released.

****ting hitting the fan time me thinks!
