This may seem a bit of a strange question but was wondering what the "SA" part of Class 141 loco "161SA" stands for on the numbering of this engine?

Any ideas, can't track it down online anywhere....

S meant that the unit was fitted with CAWS signal equipment.
A meant that it was fitted to work with Air Braked carriages and wagons; they were fitted initially with vacuum brakes.

When both systems were fitted on all locos, the markings were discontinued.
