removing bike from street

There is an old bike that has been locked on our street for a couple of months now. It has been vandalised and is just lying on the ground, still locked to a pole. I assume that the owner will not be reclaiming it at this stage due to the damage.

Does anyone know whether you can get the council (I'm in Dublin City) to come and remove it seen that it has basically been dumped by its owner?

I'd imagine if you state how it is causing an obstruction/a danger to someone they'll come out fairly quickly.

why dont you just cut it of yourself? Then again I helped myself to a bike in my mates flat block a few years ago, the bike had been abandoned for a long time, full of dust, prob couple of years, obviously I shouldnt have as it got knicked on me after that!!

Fair point, it is obstructing the footpath. If a car was doing so illegally it would potentially be towed.

What would I do with it? Fair enough if it was an old 70's racer - I might take the frame for a project! It's a big heavy ladies bike and not in the best condition.

Id tell either the council like you suggested yourself and or the cops/ and if you get nowhere THEN take it as a "right then Ill do something about it myself approach" and cut it off the pole. That way if theres any comeback !?!?!? then you have a comeback with the report to council/cops ect. ;)
