Roaming in UAE

Probably going to be there next week. Roaming charges seem to be very high. I have an O2 billpay phone sim, a data sim for my E71 and a 3Pay sim, which I used before for cheap data roaming in Denmark.

Will be data roaming as well with E71 although will use wi-fi as much as I can.

Maxroam doesn't seem to work in UAE.

Anyone know of any other solution to keep costs down? Maybe another one of these international sims or something...or am I condemned to getting a nasty bill when I get home?

The UAE is noted for trying to block Skype etc to protect excessive phone charges.

maybe check out http://www.prepaidgsm.net for some deal of interest.

It might be worth your while to get a roaming data add-on to prevent incurring hefty data charges while over there.

Not a perfect solution either but contact O2 and ask them to setup spend alerts on your account. That way at least you'll know if you go over a certain amount of money. (it's not completely accurate and takes about 24hrs to update .. but it beats no idea).

Also disable your voicemail or you will incur roaming costs everytime someone gets through to it.

Meteor do prepay roaming in UAE - might be worth your while getting a Meteor SIM. At least that way you can control your spending more so than on a bill.

Thanks for that. Looks like it might be worth my while buying a local prepaid sim when I get there.
