Does anyone know if juveniles from the republic are allowed to compete in the NI & ULSTER AGE GROUP INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS in the odyssey - which are run in conjunction with the Irish senior indoors. I emailed the organisers but got no reply. Looking at last years results it appears that athletes from SLOT Carlow took place.

    Does anyone know?

The juvenile championships are open entry. We compete every year. Much better experience for kids that running around a shed in Nenagh. Only reservation is the guarded welcome you receive. First year we competed they put our winning athletes on the podium but didn't award them medals as they weren't from Ulster. A few choice words led to the kids getting their medals.
Overall it is a very positive experience and would recommend it.

Maybe this year it has changed

    second last paragraph

Please note that the Age Group Championships held that weekend are only eligible for NI/ Ulster athletes as this is their regional final..

It would be a great pity if this is the case. The Odyssey is a great venue for young athletes. Unfortunately I always felt that non Ulster athletes were tolerated rather that welcomed which is a shame when these kids are the future of the sport.

Well it seems it is ok. Got confirmation today of my non-ulster athlete being entered. Thanks to all that replied.

downthemiddle - if they do finish in a medal position - do they still get a medal but not a championship one - or are they completely ignored

Last year they awarded up to five medals in some events depending on the number of non ulster athletes that finished in the top three.
