My new years resolution. I am not give dealers my hard earned cash for an overpriced service. Went to MSL Park motors last year for an end of warranty and they tried to charge me for a full service.

Does anyone know how to ensure an independent knows what they are doing. Have an Audi A4. Apart from asking whether they have a computerised diagnostic that can reset service mileage etc. how do i know they are qualified. Am looking at Autoplatz. Seem to be about 150 cheaper than the MSL crooks.

Probably the last service before the warranty runs out.

I would imagine that it's a thorough check-up, to make sure everything is ok before the warranty runs out.

Sorry, not meaning to give you a hard time, sometimes people create accounts to pimp their own businesses. If a new account holder spends a lot of time praising a specific service provider it sets alarm bells ringing.

I meant no harm. Welcome to boards! :D

+1 for Jetstar - been using them for a good few years and have never seen me wrong. Certainly better than MSL on Pottery Road...

Jetstar quoted me more for a timing belt change on my A4 than my local Audi dealer.

Shop around a few places before deciding. A basic service isn't that hard to do at home if you have the time and interest.

Was listening to Matt Cooper a few weeks back and the had a guy on who writes for the motoring section in the Irish Times (can't remember his name). They were discussing the cost of motoring and he said that many of the main dealers were charging exorbitant prices for simple servicing jobs. I nearly fell off my seat:D

He said that it was a popular misconception that you had to get your car serviced at a main dealer to maintain warranty. He said once you get it serviced from a qualified mechanic (not sure how you check this) and they use genuine parts, your warranty will still be valid.

I was surprised to hear this and would say that it could vary from manufacturer to manufacturer as they all have their own warranty terms. Unless there's some EU law that creates a loophole?

There isn't but when someone posts a significant percentage of their posts promoting a particular business, then they are usually regarded as a shill and immediately banned (with offending posts deleted) by myself or one of the other moderators.
